Icon35 Hamonic rescinds trade request

own thread worthy

Quote:
Travis Hamonic has rescinded his trade request and will remain with the Islanders, according to a source.

Hamonic has yet to address reporters during the team’s breakup day on Tuesday, but the source confirmed that Hamonic, 25, has told general manager Garth Snow he wants to remain with the team rather than seek a trade to be closer to his Winnipeg home.

Hamonic made that request during training camp in September and word leaked publicly in November. Snow had quietly tried to find a match for the defenseman but could not and Hamonic played the full season with the Isles, helping them reach the second round of the playoffs.

Yeah this is huge news, it really dashes all hope Edmonton had of reducing their suck even a little.

Seems like this was handled very well by both the player and the team.

The Oilers will have to hope that the Subban speculation is true now.

Good for both of him and the team IMO. Details never really surfaced around his request, but I was always hopeful that they could work it out, especially given that both he and Snow handled the situation well.

Another in a long line of WTF by the Oilers though. This was taylor made for them to grab a guy who was exactly what they needed, and Chiarelli, who is proving to be worse than the mediocre GM I took him to be, decided that this season was about patience, evaluation, blah blah, blah. How long do you need to evaluate that team before you are able to identify areas of need?

Evaluating the Oilers has to be the worst, yet easiest, job ever.

"Wow...these guys are terrible. I mean they really stink. They are no good at this whole 'hockey' thing. Is this their first day?"

What probably happened is Hamonic heard the oilers and the isles were close to a deal and was like #### that ####, I'll stay in long Island.

Thank, God. I was tired of the 'We have to get Harmonic' crowd a long time ago. Flames and Oilers.

Hamonic has slowly become the #1 d-man for the Isles. This is great news for them as he wouldn't be easy to replace. He's not an offensive juggernaut, but he plays a ton of minutes against the toughest competition and does it very effectively. It would have been a huge coup for another team to acquire him.

This also may be good news to the Flames in that the Oilers might be even more willing swap their #4 pick for our #6 if we throw in a decent shutdown prospect like Wotherspoon.

Good. Hopefully this drives up the price the Oilers have to pay for a competent defenceman.

Or better yet, inflates the price the Oilers wind up paying for an incompetent one.

Maybe trade their first to Pittsburgh in exchange for Justin Schultz back.
