Default Quick question about wireless routers

I am just curious if it's possible to set up a second wireless router in my house using only the one modem?

My current router/modem is in one corner of my house in the basement, and I've been needing to use the wireless lately on the exact opposite corner of the house on the upper floor. Is there a way to set up a second router somewhere on the other side of the house without getting another modem?

A wireless access point or repeater is what you need.

Would that basically boost the signal wiping out the dead zone?

Just to clarify, you would need to hardwire the access point in at some location, ideally on the upper floor. You can't just plug it into your router in the basement.

What kind of wireless router do you have now? Just changing some of the settings may give you some improvement like using a different channel or adjusting the power settings, etc. Conversely, I think you can buy special antennas to improve reception around the house.

But yeah, you can get access points that you can place somewhere between your main router and wherever your dead area is.

If I recall correctly it's the D-Link DIR-825 but I might be slightly off on the #. I do have the ability to put a signal booster in a room adjacent to the dead zone as well so either way, I'll be able to fix the problem thanks to everyone that replied.
