Looks like Jagr still out:
Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Not seeing Jagr on the ice for morning skate. Missed the past two games because of a lower-body injury. #Flames

Does anyone consider the Jets a rival of the Flames? We have bigger "rivalries" with all of California, with Detroit, with Tampa, and with Montreal than we do with Winnipeg.

#Flames lines this AM:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland; Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik;
Bennett-Jankowski-Hathaway;
Brouwer-Stajan-Lazar.

He knows what he did and why. He knows the Flames have done well against the Jets over the past two seasons so throwing them in would fudge the numbers to support his argument. No point in arguing.

When Jagr is back, i would I wonder if Jagr would be a fit with Backlund and Tkachuk. I like that third line with Hathaway, all sorts of jam.
Tkachuk-backlund-jagr
bennet-janko-hathaway
brouwer-lazar/stajan-frolik
If Babcock can move Nylander to the 4th line, we can move Frolik to the 4th. and maybe move him back up if protecting a lead in the third.

The Flames get the bounces to make up for the last time they hosted Vancouver.

If only we knew the Flames record against the Nucks under Gulutzan, so that we could see how they have done.

I've always considered the three prairie provinces as part of western Canada. More in common than BC in a lot of ways.

Other than for CFL division placement, Winnipeg has always been Western Canada.

Well, their last 10 home games vs Canucks they're 5-4-1 and have won the last 3 of 4 so it's perhaps not as bad as it feels but still...the last two losses sucked (vs Nucks & Oilers)

I even threw in the games against them in my comment to ensure that you couldn't include a team like the Jets but you just can't help but be the forum apologist for the organization. Bad post by your standards IMO.

You are right. I misread your post at first and failed to notice that you intentionally left Winnipeg out.
But I still maintain that it is disingenuous to characterize the Flames previous games against the Canucks as poor. It is not sparkling, but the Flames still have a winning record against Vancouver that includes only two regulation losses in eight games.

The Flames struggles with the Oilers is a unique case. I would agree that the result of the 7 Nov game sucked, but the Flames absolutely deserved a better fate in that one.

No question, the California rivalries are much bigger, but the Flames "rivalries" with the bolded teams is not at all obvious. Detroit? Why? Because of a couple playoff series played more than a decade ago? TB? Because of 2004? Of course, there are sentimental reasons to love beating these teams, but the Flames still play both of them only two times every year. They get four games against Winnipeg, and I get the sense from most fans that intra-national games between every Canadian team are on another level than mere inter-Conference or inter-Divisional games.
I would absolutely consider Winnipeg one of the Flames' top out-of-Division rival.

Do you consider the Jets an Eastern Canadian rival? Or do you simply not consider them a rival at all?
