Sorry, i believe going forward it wont be frolik. Tkachuk isnt going anywhere and keeping frolik may cost you backlund.

With Stajan, Jagr, Lack and Versteeg coming off the books this year you have almost $10,000,000 in cap room not including the increase to the cap. There is all the room necessary to keep that line intact until the end of next season.
It's the end of next year where we look for cap issues with Ferland, Tkachuk, Bennet and Smith all due.

True. Didnt take into consideration the cap rising.
However my point was more toward pairings and i would like to see someone with more finish in that line for frolik.
Along these lines.
Top line in tact
Tkachuk backs jagr
Bennet janks hąthaway
Brouwer lazar frolik

I don't see a scenario where Jagr is with the Flames beyond this season.

Keep Frolik and Jankowski.
Frolik is one of the best defensive forwards we have if not the best. Love his game and I think he likes it here.

The Backlund line is the best defensive line and does a lot of the heavy lifting against the other top lines. You can't just replace Frolik with a slow 45 yr old, a raw rookie or Versteeg and still expect the same defensive assignments from that line.
If people want to replace Frolik that's fine, but keep in mind the defensive aspect of that line as well as the offence.

You can see why the Flames liked Jankowski. At age 25 he should be a bigger more skilled Backlund. Tough to find a good comparable, maybe he'll be like a poor man's Jeff Carter? Lots to like about his game though. If you can line the term of him and Baclund up on their next contracts I think you can swap them eventually wit out it hand cufflink the team too much. I think both players are needed but two years from now could be swapping roles.

Yeah, especially since Jagr himself has said at least a couple of times that this is probably his last season. Doesn't seem likely that's going to change.

Backlund already makes 3.575 so I'd imagine at most he gets another 3 million. Basically with Stajan off the books that should cover it. The year after when Bennett, Tkachuk, and Ferland are up for contracts that's when things could get a bit tougher.

I like Backlund as much as anyone but I don't see him getting north of $6mil, that's Monahan money. Treliving will not want to put himself in the cap crunch you're alluding to the next year either.

Backlund gets the Dougie deal. Janko should be locked up but likely gets ferland money. Kulak is gonna be tough, 1year 1mil, show me type deal makes sense except that several guys will be due for raises at the end of 2019 season. Best guess: 2 years 1.25 yr 1, 1.5 yr 2.
Or go all in on TAVARES.

That's why I said at most. Backlund likely gets somewhere between 5.5-6.5 depending on the term.
