All of our competitors got better while we did nothing. Not overly impressed with today’s results.

Hope Valimaki is a top pairing guy for turning that down.

Unless he signs for over 9.5 million per year.

And the Flames would have had to have sent salary to Ottawa, so it would have been tougher.
I have a sense Treliving knows what Stone is going to get for his next contract and doesn't want to go there.

I think it hinged on: Valimaki was a bridge too far, and they figured, perhaps after talking to him/his agent, his contract demands were too high to re-sign.

Looks like the Sens gave permission to Vegas to talk to Stone

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Extension being worked on, pretty obvious that one is coming since there appears to be no conditional picks in the deal from OTT to VGK.

Because Brannstrom (like Valimaki) is worth way more than a late 1st

We heard Valimaki was a deal breaker and evidently he was.
If he ends up being a long-term #1 dman or even #2 then it makes sense
It seems like the Sens prioritized getting the prospect they wanted. So an offer like Kylington+1st perhaps would not have got it done
It was all about Valimaki. Quite the vote of confidence for that young man.

So? Even with their improvements they're still weaker.

They improved because they HAD too, we didn't

Would you if you knew $10.5m/yr was what's needed to extend?

That's just too much for him, I think.

Truth be told you might need to keep Valimaki in the chamber for a summertime trade for a bonafide #1 goalie.

There is no guarantee Rittich can be a #1 long term, and Mike Smith is done in Calgary.

or the Flames cannot make the contract work or Stone did not want to sign here.

Goalies are very rarely worth that much, though

Doesn't seem like nearly as much as I thought, but who knows if Stone was even willing to extend in Calgary.

Who's the better prospect: Valimaki or Brannstrom?

I'm the opposite. I'm pretty relieved we didn't get all crazy and overpay for rentals.
