Botchford: I haven't had a chance to confirm..but I heard Bo Horvat deal is done, and it's a bridge deal
If it's a bridge deal, it could be an interesting comparable for Bennett. At this point, Horvat has significantly more leverage, but still.

Bennett and Horvat are not comparable. Horvat has proven much more, and from what we have seen is a much better hockey player. I don't know why Vancouver would want to bridge him.

Not sure why Vancouver don't want to lock their next franchise center up for a longer term? Jim Dim, I guess?
I'm sure they do want to lock him up for 8 years. However, based on his progression so far it makes more sense for Horvat to want a bridge in order to maximize his career earning potential. It makes perfect sense.
Kid opened my eyes when we played against him in the 2015 playoffs. He's skating has gone from a weakness into a strength and he is really strong on the puck. That was an outstanding pick by the Canucks.
Look at that rush at 1:18

I am thinking the opposite. Horvat had a breakout year last year, and in the second half of the season his line was splitting duties with the Sedin line, and was basically the de-facto top line for the Canucks. The question here is what sort of player in the long run is Horvat? I suspect he sees himself in the same class as Barkov, Monahan and Pastrnuk, but the Canucks likely project him to be a reliable 45-55 point #2 centre. I am betting that on the heels of a bridge deal he is more in line with Alex Galchenyuk than he is with P.K Subban for a raise.

IMO, Horvat is not going to be a franchise C, I see him as becoming a really good 2nd line C.
So I agree with Vancouver on this one.
I agree with the first part, but not the second. For a rebuilding team, if a player is in your long term plans, getting him on a long term deal with a higher AAV over the first couple of years than a bridge deal will provide hurts you not at all, because you don't need that cap space. The lower AAV towards the end of the deal helps when you're more of a contender (or so you hope). So I agree with you that he's not a franchise center, but I still think they should be signing him long term.
That being said, maybe it wasn't in the cards and this was just the type of deal that both sides could live with.

I think the kid is a good second line center that's strong away from the puck, but I don't think he's got great offensive production. If they want to sign him to a long term deal, his agent is looking for Mony money or more to get that done. The Canucks are smart if they've done a bridge deal at second line center money and see if he becomes a top center or if they have to spend money to get him.

1040 is currently desperate to announce this ahead of any official announcement to steal the thunder from Sportsnet 650s debut on Monday.
Sportsnet just took the Canucks away from their long time home of 1040, and it is currently surmised that the Horvat deal is done and that they are waiting for the 650 launch to officially announce it. So every TSN 1040 personality is currently spoiling that and trying to get a scoop on what the deal is.
For the record, much like the Sportsnet hockey on TV being garbage, most expect 650s Canucks broadcasts to also be hot garbage.

Sure, but that's working on the assumption that the cap hit is reasonable for the player, long term.
If Horvat thinks he's a $6M+ guy, and the Nucks don't, then a long term contract doesn't make sense, regardless of whether or not they can easily afford it right now.
