That said I must be doing some math wrong, as the way I see it San Jose has clinched but Fox Sports, ESPN, nor the NHL website have them listed as clinched.
Not quite because of Colorado.

If Calgary wins tonight they will have 95 points. If they were to lose the remainder of their games:

The Knights and Coyotes could still pass them placing them in a fight for the wildcard spot.(Knights with a max of 105, Arizona with 99)

For Minnesota to pass them, Minnesota would need to win all of their remaining 11 games (giving them 96 points, 95 points would not be enough due to ROW). Because Minnesota would need to beat the Knights and Coyotes, the max those teams could receive in this case is now 104 and 98. You're right that a win by the Flames tonight and a loss by Minnesota tomorrow means that the Flames will beat Minnesota.

But Colorado can also get 96 points if they win all of their games. Similar to the Wild, they play Minnesota and Arizona.

So it's still, possible if not improbable for the teams to finish:

Pacific
Flames 104+
Vegas 104
Arizona 98

Wildcard
St. Louis 95+
Colorado 96

Sharks 94

Looks like Rittich starts

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Great to see James Neal skating with some #Flames teammates this morning. Mike Smith, who missed yesterday’s practice due to illness, also on the ice this morning. David Rittich is first off and likely to start vs. #Rangers. #NYRvsCGY

So now do you assume?

Smith is the starter because he gets Winnipeg?
Rittich is the starter and will get both? (unlikely)
Or like Vegas did last weekend, starter goes against weaker team rested, so you don't end up 0-2?

None of the above.

Rittich won, the net is currently his. If he wins tonight, he will start Tuesday. Regardless of how Smith handles the Jets.

Because the Flames play before the Wild tomorrow, as long as the Flames get a point tonight, going into tomorrow's game against the Jets, the Flames could clinch the playoffs with 96 points. Exactly as the snake foretold, we just interpret it wrong.

I have a feeling that we might see Neal against Columbus next week. That'd be a big deal.

Found my arithmetic mistake, in my spreadsheet I changed the games remaining for the Wild to make it easy for me compare what would happen if they lost.

Then I didn't change it back to compare where they're at now against the Sharks.

I knew it had to be me, but couldn't figure out where. As soon as it was pointed out that if the Wild win out they'd have 96 points, I found the error quickly.

Cheers.

Smith recovering from being sick probably factored into the decision. I think if he were healthy, they probably start Smith tonight and Rittich tomorrow.

Depending on how Rittich plays tonight and how Smith feels, I think it's 50/50 that Rittich starts tomorrow too.

Well Smith is also sick, so that’s got to play a part in letting him rest no?

I think Czarnik has done well replacing Neal but has gone a bit cold lately. Neal would be perfect on that third line.

Hopefully the Flames learned a lesson from the Devils game. You can't take your foot off the gas against anyone in this league. The bottom feeders are all playing for jobs and pride right now, and they'd like nothing more than to play spoiler against the better teams. Just look at last night's Sharks/Panthers game. Flames will need to be ready for this one.

Surprised given the top pairing tire fire against the Devils that they didn't move Andersson up, Brodie down and over, and bring Stone in.

Seems to me a lot of teams are using their starter against the perceived weaker opponent this year than what I have seen in years past. I would Smith will play in Winnipeg if he is over his illness unless Rittitch has a monster game with low shots against maybe.

Would be nice to see Brodie settle down and simplify his defensive game before the playoffs start. Just make the smart, easy play to get the puck out and up the ice. No more tire fires in his own end, starting tonight.

Hoping for another night of scoring 5+

Going to have a few drinks tonight and enjoy this one.

Taking back 1st in the west would be huge. Control our own destiny.

We already do. If we win out, the West is ours.
