It appears so. Rob Blake as a 4th round pick was the latest pick I saw.

Wow hard to think of a better captain honouring a former awesome captain this Saturday.

Yup, the last undrafted Norris Trophy winner was some guy named Robert Orr.

Worse than when this thread was made. Burns’ point totals are concerning
For many writers this is just the Paul Coffey trophy. And how many of these eastern writers watch the Flames?

Warrener figures it's Burns by a landslide now.

Hoping Gio still pulls some votes due to his stronger two-way play; given his age he has to be the sentimental pick as well. Burns clearly has more points, although he's actually started to slow down in March.
Hey, if Hudler can manage to win the Lady Byng...

The eastern argument doesnt work when his biggest competition is further west, and home games often start at like 1042 eastern

I think Morgan Reilly is going to factor in as he's going to get a lot of votes from Ontario media and some in the media may consider him being the goals leader a factor.

Hasn't Burns already won it?
The guy is basically a forward that hangs out on the blue line. Gio is the full package. Him winning would also be a much more feel good story.

If he doesn't win the Norris this year, it will be an absolute travesty. The only serious threat is Burns, IMO. Giordano has been better, and Burns already has one.
|
I simply can't see how it would be a "travesty" if Gio didn't win.
Burns is legitimate opposition and having another absolute beast of a season once again. I'd love it if Gio finally won the award, but its tough going up against a guy who seems to be at his absolute peak and putting up completely insane offensive figures.

This likely helps Burns because none of them know that he doesn't play defence

It does work when most of those Eastern writers don't actually watch either player. Absent of seeing Giordano and Burns in action and using this in their decision making they will invariably most often turn to their counting stats, which dramatically favour Burns at present.

Burns is an excellent defenseman, but it would be a travesty if the best defenseman does not win the award for being the best defenseman. Mark Giordano has been the NHL's best defenseman this season.

He's been outstanding, but discrediting a guy with the stats (advanced and pedestrian) that Burns does, which are on par, if not better in many aspects is just plain nonsense. Gio and Burns are both every bit as noticeable on any given night as easily as valuable to their teams success thus far.
It is going to be an incredibly tight race and certainly not a travesty as suggested.

It is going to be close. If Gio stays within 10 points of him, I think he has a shot.
I'd handicap it 60-40 burns right now.

The Flames winning the conference/division IMO would help Gio's case a ton. Not that it should matter, but I think both players are pretty equal when all is said and done. Burns has the great offensive game. Gio has the well rounded game. Whomever's team wins the division I have a feeling will influence the voters since they are both so equal.
