Default *SPOILER DISCUSSION* Star Wars The Force Awakens *POST HERE AFTER SEEING THE MOVIE*

Starting this to keep the other thread safe for those who may not see this at the first possible opportunity on Thursday.

I'm at Chinook IMAX at 7 PM on Thursday. I saw some showtimes posted that show 3 AM start times and the like. Is this going to be playing 24 hours a day over the opening weekend?

EDIT: Apparently there are showings on Dec 16 at 1:30 AM (IMAX), 2:15 AM and 3 AM at Chinook. The showtimes city wide starting on Friday are nuts.

I can't believe I came into this thread even with the tiniest chance of a spoiler.

I need to ban myself from the internet until Friday.

I'm probably going to wait until it comes out on demand, but I would be interested to hear your take on it. I don't care if you spoil anything for me either.

It was okay. I think the sequels might be better.

EDIT:

I'm going to elaborate a little. It was a fan movie, with lots of fan service. If you're a fan, or you can wake the 12 year old in you, you're probably going to love it. Other than that it was solid if silly entertainment. (Yeah, it stretched credibility pretty far even by Star Wars standards.)

Visually it had a few good moments and the overall look was good, although for the most part it did miss a bit of... That Something. Maybe that was just me, but I felt it was trying too hard to be Awesome a lot of the time.

The lightsaber duel in the end was among the best in the whole series, and certainly better than anything in episodes I-III. A big plus for that.

A huge strength going forward is that the main protagonist and the main bad guy were pretty much the most interesting characters. This is the main reason why I feel the next episodes have a good chance to be better than this one, which felt more like an intro.

The dialogue could have used some work though, it was pretty stock for my taste.

So far from the spoiler clips I have seen online my favourite part is when Rey uses the force to grab the light saber. Wowza what a moment. My least favourite obviously Han dying, especially in such a crappy way. Can't help but feel horrible for him.

Looking forward to seeing it all Saturday in better quality and put in the right order lol.

I really enjoyed the way Ren uses his saber, total Knights of Ren medieval broad sword style.

Read the wiki entry so I can move on with my life. Sounds like a good movie, I might get around to it or might just wait for VOD.

I absolutely loved it! It had minor flaws, but it was trying to do so much. I thought it had a near perfect balance of nostalgia and newness. Had it been released within 5 years of ROTJ they could have spent less time on the nostalgia, but I don't care. JJ Abrams did a beautiful job. A nod to the old and stamping this as his own but with total respect to the franchise.

Maybe once the 12 year old in me clams down I'll be more critical, but my first reaction is the one i'm going with, it was so good my eyes watered up a few times.

There is no after credits scene, FYI.

Large chunks of it felt like a remake of the original movie, but with new technology so that the scale and scope of it felt more contemporary. I really liked the new protagonists. Rey, Finn, and Poe bring a lot of heart to the screen, and they feel like they absolutely belong up there with the original cast.

I don't want to detail plot points here until a few more people have seen it. I want to go check it out again on Sunday if I can to pay extra close attention in a few critical scenes.

I've been thinking the same thing all day.

What I really loved was the banter between the characters. That was one thing that was sorely missing in the prequels: the humour. Those funny bits of dialogue were so much better than the forced "hey look at Jar Jar stepping in poo". The scene where BB-8 gives Finn the thumbs up was hilarious! But this movie pulled off being funny when it could be, and serious and dark when it needed to be, and that blend of moods made it great. I loved the dynamic between Finn and Rey, how he has his delusions of chivalry and how she's always shutting him down.

I was hoping for more chewie going berserk after Han died, but still very happy with that movie

I also really liked the fact that they used a lot of original music instead of relying on recycling the older scores.
