Default Best way to kill Ants

I have a huge ant hill by a tree in my front yard.

I want to keep the tree but erase all evidence of those ants, kill every last one.

Anyone have tips on how to kill all the ants but keep my tree alive.

I have a bottle of Bug-B-Gone the type you attach to a hose. Works great and you can treat a large area I sprayed a section of my lawn because my neighbor is too lazy to get rid of the massive ant problem. They do come back of course.

Boric acid mixed with sugar or some type of fat will take out an ant colony, slowly.

First you convince them that working 40 hours a week for someone else is a life worth living. Next introduce an extensively redundant amount of options for multimedia consumption, over time leading them to an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Make unhealthy food not only plentifully and cheap but make healthy food cost prohibitive, driving them down the path to obesity and disease. Then you sit back, kick up your feet, and let the inevitable march of time handle the rest. Voila, no more ants.

1 part borax, 3 parts sugar - dissolve in a little warm water to make a paste. Add a little honey or maple syrup to make a nice sticky sweet substance. Put it in a couple containers with holes cut in the top for the ants to access (plastic bottle or margarine containers work well). The ants will take the borax solution back to the nest and it will kill the queen and everyone else.

They also hate garlic. Doesn't kill them, but will send them to your neighbour's yard which many consider a success. I use it because I don't want my cat eating poison. Buy one of those huge cheap bags from Superstore, toss in a blender with some oil and water(no, we aren't making Italian food), blend then just dump it everywhere you don't want ants and/or vampires.

Oh, a kettle of boiling water will also take care of smaller infestations.

Your local hardware store sells ant baits. It’s poison they carry back to the queen that kills the colony. It’s what I used a couple times and it works.

You’ll also find lots of old wives tales online with words like “organic” and “simple”.

None of them will work.

Garlic works. Find an ant on the sidewalk, and draw a circle around with a piece of garlic. Voila, you have just trapped an ant. They hate the stuff.

Corn meal. They eat it but can't digest it an thus die in agony.

This is what we are currently trying - borax mixed with maple syrup, poured it in a pop can and faced the opening up close to the foundation so the birds can't get to it but lots of space for the dang ants.

Diazinon will stop them in their tracks but you need to be a farmer or have a country residence to be able to buy it at UFA.

1 to 2 Tbsp per sprinkling can of water and douse the infestation. Keep your dogs off for the first day.

I used the Ant-b-Gon and just bought some the other day at home depot. It is like shaving cream and you can stick it into the ground and spray and it comes out all the holes. Works really well.

$50 for 900ml of garlic water that is only good for 4 weeks? LOL.

No, you need the chunks of garlic for success.
