While I take your personal claim at face value, the CPL schedule is likely going to be far more comparable to the CFL schedule than the NHL one.

shermanator, do you know if they're prioritizing weekend dates?

When I met with the league they mentioned they wanted Saturday afternoon games, so that they do not compete with HNIC for eyes.

A weekend afternoon would be fantastic. I already love watching English football with a coffee on weekend mornings. Heading out for a beer and live soccer after would make a great day.

That also makes it easier for families with younger kids to come out to the games... probably a good objective to pursue. I'm still hoping for evening games though, I want my Saturday afternoons free for golfing, hiking and running!

Just my own guess, but I'm betting it will be 90% or more Saturday afternoons, and maybe some Sundays too. The MLS has done a good job at establishing a routine among supporters as the "afternoon out" sort of activity, which is common around the world for soccer matches. Plus it avoids a lot of the other sports that are competing for eyes, as has already been mentioned.

There will be a little bit of overlap between Stampeders and Cavalry supporters, and of course the Flames in September/October (May, not so much!). It would do the Cavalry well if they avoided scheduling conflicts with those other local sports as well, as much as possible anyway, just to maximize the attendance and also the interest level and media attention. Why be the footnote on a day that the Stamps played, when you can be the headline the day after?

And I know that the location has been done to death, but I will point out:

- A weeknight match at Spruce Meadows would be tricky for a lot of people - more so than a weekend - especially with kids, when all of the logistics are considered.

- I don't believe that there are floodlights there, and I doubt that is a priority due to the dual use nature of the area. Evenings in May, June, and July would probably have enough light for an evening fixture, but it would not be an option as the evenings get shorter again in late summer and early fall.

Halifax Wanderers have just been unveiled. And they have a hell of a logo in my opinion.

Winnipeg's back story will be this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valour_Road

And I don't like it. Perhaps for the same reason I'm not thrilled with Calgary's name - not a big fan of military/politics being interjected into sports like that. In this case, it seems like a really cheesy play on patriotic display.

And, Halifax looks to be the opposite of Calgary for me: Great name, meh logo.

I would've assumed that avoiding live conflicts with the Stamps would be the highest priority, above even avoiding the NHL.

Cavalry FC merchandise is now available online. I can say the hoodie is damn comfortable, the scarf is on my wall and the backpack I thought was a shopping bag until my wife pointed out the functionality....

They nailed that apparel, which is really impressive considering the small start up nature of this team.

They could have fallen into the two deathtraps of minor sports apparel;

1. Too complicated, reaching for something you can't hit without a huge budget
2. Going minimalist and striking out due to not achieving anything noteworthy in the colour scheme or logo.

This may look simple and easy to achieve to some, but it's a huge win in terms of logo, colour and scheme. Excellent work.

Talking on the weekend to a friend who has long been involved with soccer at the local level, and his concern was - what level of soccer will this be?

From what I've heard, it's going to be roughly equivalent to last year's NASL or this year's USL. Watch an Ottawa Fury game, and that's probably the level to expect to start.

McMahon and Winsport are venues. Spruce Meadows is essentially a farmers field in the middle of nowhere. The comparison is not accurate at all.

This is the same as the Okotoks dawgs for me. I go to one game or soma year but i would go to every game if they were in or around the core of the City. Though I doubt the Dawgs care given they sell out, but soccer is a different beast.

Hahaha, McMahon Stadium? I have no idea how often you go, but to consider that some kind of destination has to be just plain trolling. I have to be there this weekend and I already know it’s going to be terrible.
