I can't even imagine the decision that you are faced with. My thoughts are with you, your family, and your dog.

I also agree with the suggestion of giving your children a choice.

We have 3 dogs.....likely to be 2 by Wednesday unfortunately.

Molly is a 13 YO Bijon ####zu who was just fine by all appearances on Saturday. Yesterday morning i went to let her out an she turned and went into the front room which she never ever does...and just layed down. I knew something was wrong.

Kept an eye on her the rest of the day hoping it was just a dog flu or something but by 8 last night it was apparent this was nothing we could help her with. To the vets office she went and after some blood and urine tests it was discovered she had almost no white blood cells working. Without subjecting her to more poking and prodding it was explained that she very likely has cancer but it could be a bad infection. As of about 8 tonight I am aware that its not something simple that anti-biotics and some pain killers will fix.

This comes on the heel of my grandmother passing away at the age of 105 and 345 days last Monday and the service occurring tomorrow.

Funny thing is though that as much as I adore and love my grandmother...im having a harder time with Molly's situation...though i expect that will change tomorrow.

Wednesday isnt gonna be a very good day i fear but just telling the story helps i think.

Anyhow...love your family everyone but dont neglect those who cant speak for themselves.

Pets rock.

So very sorry to hear. Thank you for sharing with us. I will keep you in my thoughts. Only by knowing great love can we know deep heartache - and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well ####. My turn to post here again.

After 17 months of being cancer free (since chemotherapy) lymphoma in my yellow lab came back. Aggressively.

He didn't have very good quality of life last time so chemo isn't an option this time. We are going to give him some drugs to make him as comfortable as possible until he's too sick to carry on.

God, I feel so gutted. My 2 year old daughter will be devastated, not sure what to even tell her.

He is getting a lot of steak in the next few weeks, that's for sure.

I'm sorry about your pupper.

Putting down pets is one of the hardest things to do. I had to put down my cat last year that I'd had for about 12 years, and even though I knew she was sick and had far more bad days than good at that point, it broke my heart to make the decision to put her down.

There was near constant regret for a long time after, thinking, had I not made the decision she'd still be around. Did she have more time and I jumped the gun? Was it too soon? Did I kill my sweet little girl? In the end it was the right decision but man is it a hard one. I miss her every single day.

My heart is with everyone that has to go through this.

My family just went through our 13 year old lab-x passing while on the family vacation to Kelowna.

We knew her time had come and we were taking her to the vet when she passes on her own about 30 min from the vet.

Home feels pretty empty.

I had a quiet chat with my little guys about her passing Fozzie. I'm not sure i'll ever forget them whining to be let outside our house, only to have them sit outside your door whining until she was let out to play.

RIP sweet Hobie. She had a fall and injured her spine. I'm in Toronto and my Dad was taking care of her, and had to take her in. Kind of in shock about it, she was 21.
