I agree. So let him take over. Don't just hand the reigns over after a good start to the season,.
I'm just saying give him like 7 of the next 10 starts or something, see how he handles it, and go from there. If he struggles, then get Smith in a little more. If he doesn't, see how long he can keep it up.

I agree with this.
You know that this would just eat at smith’s soul and that’s good because maybe if he was angry about losing his spot and likely any future in the league after this season he would stop focusing on fighting the puck and channel that anger.

I say have them each start five and go from there. That still comes close to matching the number of starts Rittich had in quick succession last year when Smith went down, but comes with less risk of completely alienating Smith. Hopefully they are both playing well and will continue to push each other over the season. I know a number of posters are ready to drive Mike Smith back to Arizona in their own cars, but it is likely the Flames will still need him at some point—various points—this year. Why not maximize the team's options by trying to get both goalies going at the same time?

Most definitely! Was meant more as a comment about how the Hawks roster has changed over the years since their cup winning days then as a shot against their cap situation.
Believe me, all of us would sellout the Flames' cap down the road if it meant going to 3 parades

I have my own unique measurement for assessing and analyzing goalies. I'm sure others use this method as well. I throw GAA, SV%, High Danger saves and every other measurable statistic out the window.
My stat is called TOS - terrifed of shots. When the opponent is about to get a shot on goal, do I feel terrified?
So far this season:
Mike Smith (always terrified)
David Rittich (rarely terrified)

I think I've been applying this scheme ever since starting to watch hockey, and never named it.
S.O.S. (scared of shots) works too, and has a nice double-entendre.
And to hell with the Oilers, just because they're also on tonight.
Big start for Rittich tonight, really hope he can run with this opportunity. Definitely the biggest moment in his young career. Here’s hoping he passes with flying colors.
