Colorado's top line might be the most dangerous in the league this year. Whoever has that assignment is going to have a long night, so they better be ready to play. They need a full team commitment when MacKinnon and co. are on the ice or we are going to be trailing early and often.
After that, the Flames matchups with every other line give them the advantage. Manage the top line and then go to work.
The Avs boast a top 3 penalty kill and a top 11 power play. Special teams for the Flames in the bottom third of the league early on. Special teams play might be the deciding factor in this one as well.

I would not be opposed to seeing Rittich play this one. He has looked fantastic, and part of striking a finer balance between the goalies this year should see him starting more games at the Saddledome. Also, the Flames need to be better at home, and so far I think they look tighter defensively in front of Rittich.

Flames need to come out quick and not get caught sleepy like the previous Avs game. Flames win 3-1

So far I have thought that the Flames have had good starts on home ice this season.

Flames need to play much better at home if they are going to make the playoffs this year
Most likely this comes down to whichever first line plays better

No doubt, they are the best. Speedster Mackinnon who was up for the Hart last season is centering the league's leading scorer that NOBODY talks about in Mikko Rantanen. In fact he was quietly over PPG last season and nobody seemed to notice. Tough nosed Gab Ladenskog on the other side. 55 points so far this season for that line. All 3 players well over PPG. It's going to be tough to contain that line. Real tough. I'm not sure where they rank on Bingo's line ranking, but with offence like that it easily out masks any deficiencies they have.
Varlamov is on pace for a Vezina season if he keeps playing like this. I haven't really watched the Avs this season so I don't know how good their backend is. But that top line is so elite and top heavy that they can easily singlehandedly win the game by themselves if the Flames #### up.

When you have 3M deployed against their top line, this is when the third (and fourth) lines need to tilt the ice and chip in a goal or two. So far it’s been PP1 and playing 6-5 but obviously that’s not a recipe for long term success.
Oh, and break out the retros!
4-2 Flams. Neal, Bennett, Monahan and Frolik (EN).

This game will be a huge test for Smith. If I recall correctly he hasn't strung together two good performances yet this season.

Why does SN960 keep advertising this game as “the Flames in Colorado”?
I swear I have heard this a few times over the past two or three days now, and it continues to trip me up.

Probably ends up saving them a few bucks so they don't have to record a new blurb. Or the filename (guessing it is an audio file) has no naming convention to make it easy for the user. They just keep using CalvsCol.mp4 instead of the ColvsCal.mp4.
end of records management rant.

Yeah, even the Pens game was that way. There've been a few games where they've played really well but been scored on first. The Avs, Pens, Sabres, Caps games come to mind. The difference was that they wilted against the Pens - frankly it just seemed that game that no matter what they did or how hard they tried the Pens got a goal.

Very curious to see the lines at the morning skate.
Fully expect Czarnik to find his way back in, and it won't surprise me if its at Ryan's expense.

Are they saying "the Flames and Colorado"? Though that is still jarring because it should be Calgary and Colorado or Flames and Avs.

I’m expecting a strong game from the Avalanche after the Flames came back on their home ice. This is going to be a really good game tonight.
