The Oilers are right on the cap. Do missing games help salary cap issues or is that relief only for ltir?

Russell would need to miss 10 games or 30 days to get any relief. They won't get any cap relief, him going on IR is for roster flexibility.

Wow! it sure looks like a "1 of these things is not like the other" article. But, I guess we will see. Definitely different approaches taken by these 3 teams.
Winnipeg - deep at every position with a couple great but mostly good players
Toronto - Deep at forward with a number of "superstars" and good support players, but defense is pretty weak. Tender looked good last year, they will need that to continue.
Oilers - 1 superstar and a couple other good players with very little supporting forward depth and pretty dodgy defense based on hope and bandaids, and a goalie that they really need a bounce back year from.
I guess we will see which philosophy wins out in the end

I think I see what the NHL is doing here. This is the "test" of a team, naturally the Oilers, being relegated because they are no good.

Köln has been pouring on the pressure for the entire third period. McDavid is on the ice all the time, in a preseason game in Germany, even killing penalties. Amazing.

Noone else is doing anything, so he has to play I guess. Brodziak looked like his life was over when Klefbom iced the puck with a minute to go in a tie game. If not for a fluke goal by upcoming art Ross winner Ty Rattie they would have lost in regulation. Köln was the better team by far. It's great stuff!
