When the Predators traded Jimmy Vesey's rights, they got a 4th round pick. So, I guess that's a decent approximation of what Fox is worth? From Treliving's comments, it sounds like he plans to become a UFA, so really all Carolina is buying is negotiation time.

I could see him not wanting to sign in Calgary, but to play two more years of NCAA to become a UFA? Instead of signing next year and burning year 1? Seems unlikely to me but then again I never went to Harvard...
I am fine with Lindholm and Hanifin for Hamilton and Ferland. The Flames need a higher compete level and with concerns about Hamilton off ice and Ferland's concussion issues it makes sense.
I just don't like Adam Fox being included. If he wasn't going to sign, that's fair. But why throw him in this deal?
Keep him and use him to trade for an asset from another team.
I would've been good with Lindholm & Hanifin for Hamilton and Ferland.
Then trade Fox for a 1st rounder or another blue chipper.
I guess we will be able to judge this trade better in 3-5 years.

Flames dealt from a position of strength to address some deficiencies in the forward group. They didn't address all the problems, but the deal goes to shoring up the offensive output.
Hamilton was clearly a problem.
Brodie goes back to the right side. The Flames improve offensively. They avoid a Bouma situation where they're paying a bottom 6 forward big money to not doing anything in Ferland.
They hold onto all of their most NHL ready defensive prospects. They don't let a situation progress to an Erixon type last minute nail biter.
Hanifin is the better player as compared to Hamilton right now IMO.
I love this trade.
Preach!
I'm now reading through the thread, and this makes all sorts of sense to me. I think this team is going to be really hitting it's stride in the next 2 or 3 years. This is a move that puts the Flames into the conversation of legitimate contenders.

As long as Mike Smith keeps playing well. (please let one of our goalie prospects become a starter... )

Me: Flames made a trade.
Her: Did they trade Johnny??!?!??!
Me: No. They traded for a guy named Lindholm, who will probably play with Johnny.
Her: So, Johnny, Monny and.....Lindy?

I'm guessing they'll experiment with both. Going to come down to whether or not Peters is happy with Jankowski at C or not I think. There's been chatter of him wanting to try Tkachuk on the right side which is why I'd posted my lineup

Likely because Carolina doesn't agree to the deal without him.
So do you walk away from acquiring the two players you got because you didn't want to include a guy you knew you couldn't sign or do you go ahead and make the trade and get the guys you do covet?

My first thought is that we paid too much. I don't hate the trade, both Lindholm and Hanifin are good young players, just feel we should have got a pick or prospect back. Obviously I don't know any of the behind the scenes stuff but judging by this trade Fox wasn't going to sign here and there was off ice issues with Dougie.
