Kristen Odland
@Kristen_Odland
#Flames announce they've placed Jaromir Jagr on IR and recalled Ryan Lomberg from the Stockton Heat #AHL.
Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Jagr's IR is retroactive to Dec. 31, FYI.

Does the AHL have anyone left??.
Kind of disappointing how Klimchuk, Poirier, and Shinkaruk are pretty much done.

Lomberg is an energy guy with limited offense. Must feel they need a crasher and banger over some of the other guys left on the Heat.

Someone get hurt in Florida?
Weird timing with the break coming up.
Wonder what Klimchuk is thinking about all this as well....though he is a C and they clearly wanted a winger instead.
Just an odd call up IMO.

I think Klimchuck still figures in the Flames plans. We hear good things about Klimchuck, but they're pretty quiet on Piorier & Shinkauruk.

I think Hrivik being sent down will come out soon too. Heat need C help. Lomberg (earned) can be the extra forward now.

Good for Lomberg. First time callup? The guy is a pure grinder/energy -- no doubt a milestone in his career thus far (undersized, undrafted, and I think he only had an AHL contract last year?).

Lomberg following Hathaways track a little. I think Klimchuk should've been the next call up but I'm interested in seeing what Lomberg can do

Quite the journey for the guy. Undrafted, unheralded played in the ECHL. Must be a great feeling for him and his family.

Gets to say to his grandkids: "When Jagr was injured, the team called me up to fill his spot"

We've seen what a little injection of jam has done for this team.
Sadly Lazar hasn't brought much of it, Lomberg ALWAYS does. Perfect 4th liner, hope he gets in at some point and makes it impossible to send him down as we've seen multiple times this year with our other call ups.
Great two way game, work ethic and motor. Lazar really better step it up here or I smell waivers.

Lomberg has busted his arse to get this even if he doesn't play it's gotta be a bonus for him.
I hope he draws in and shows Lazar he can do all these energy things too.
It's nice having healthy competition we can continue with so guys don't just sit and stagnate.....they have to work .

I don't think Klimchuk is done with the flames. He still seems to be on pace to surpass last season's points total in the AHL and if I recall correctly he hasn't had the benefit of playing on the top line.
Poirier is hard to guess, stats say he's playing better than the past two years, but far behind his first couple of seasons. Maybe the Flames keep him around another year to help him turn his career around.
Shinkaruk looks like a guy that has hit his ceiling in the AHL.
