We had takeout from a new place called Thai Siam yesterday (pop up at Starr Distilling). Honestly, probably the best Thai food I've had in Calgary in a long time. The pork skewers were unbelievably good (I would have happily only eaten that on coconut rice to be honest). Also had pad se ew, crispy fish and a curry. I'd say that of what we ordered, the panang curry was probably the weakest dish but it was still awesome. Two thumbs up.

Interesting! It looks like this was the place located just around the corner from Starr last year or so - Thai Takeout. I contemplated stopping in for takeout a couple times after the gym, but honestly, it kinda looked sketch (and as a woman, I didn't feel comfortable going in). I'll have to give it a try!

Is Barbarella Bar any good? Friends want to go there but I’m not in the mood for just another Concorde joint.

I will second My Little Italia. The homemade pasta is unbelievable. The tiramisu is the best I have ever had, they bring it to your table in a baking dish covered in plastic wrap and dish you out a scoop. Very homey feel to it.

(Fair notice: my son works for Concorde)
My wife and I go there every couple of months...terrific cocktails and love the food generally. For us, it's a loud room (we're both in our 70s so that may just be an age-related affliction LOL).
But the place is packed every time we go, so people must like it!

I remember that place, it's name was something like Palatial Grill,. We went there a couple times and I recall it being pretty fun and unique experience.

Mogouyan
A new, hand-pulled noodle restaurant Mogouyan opened up in Pacific Place Mall on 36th St (the same mall with the T & T inside).
Its definitely the authentic hand-pulled noodle experience, with an open kitchen and the noodle-puller front and center doing his thing. They have both noodle soups and stir fries, the latter being what we ordered and was awesome. The noodles were cooked just right, being chewy and al-dente and not too soft.
The menu did say the stir-fry came at a level 2/3 spicy though, but the server probably made an assumption that a couple of white people wouldn't want it served that hot and put it through to the kitchen as "less spicy", which we only figured out when we saw the bill. It was still very good, but we had to request some chili-oil on the side to boost up the spice levels.
Overall I'd rate it an 11/14 and would go back again.

For those who tried and enjoyed Odd Burger, should probably go in the coming days before the year is up, before a wait exists...

I have a couple of Modern Steak gift cards to use up, and I have never been. Between the Stephen Avenue and Kensington locations, is one better than the other? Food, vibe, etc.
Also, it seems that the Kensington location is also a "Modern Ocean". Are they completely separate sections within the same restaurant, or is it basically the same dining room/kitchen, just with more seafood in addition to the usual steak stuff? Or phrased another way: Can one person get something from the steak menu, and the other from the seafood menu?

Never been to the Kensington location, just the Stephen Ave and Southland location. We had no issue getting something from the seafood menu and something from the steak menu.

Thanks, but I'm up in the far NW. I don't voluntarily venture south of Glenmore. But might if lured by steak.

The Cattle Baron is closing in Royal Oak. It will be reopening as a Milestones.
Good riddance. Bad bad and even worse service.
