Lack of elite scoring is killing the team. I think Sutter is stifling some of the higher end guys, but that doesn’t fix the fundamental issue.
Our first line carried a lot of the load last year. Not just by volume of goals, but in key situations + clutch scoring. That’s completely missing from the team this year.
I can’t watch another year of this mediocre roster combined with this entertainment value so I hope something gives.

It definitely is on Sutter now. Agree with everything the first post said. Walker Duehr has been solid when he's in the line up, has wheels, first to the forecheck, first forward on the back check, he tries every shift he's out there and he has some good hockey IQ. instead, Lucic LUCIC and more LUCIC. Tre said the play of Duehr made R. Ritchie expendable, well we haven't seen him in the line up since.
Dube is 4th on the team in goals. Instead of trying him with Huberdeau/Kadri ( even though they need to be split), he gets thrown onto the 4th line, playing 4th line minutes with Lucic/Lewis when what this team lacks desperately is goals. Instead, throw Nick Ritchie there. Guy you just got, trying to learn the system, yadah yadah. Dube deserves a spot in the top 6.

It’s a bad mix between the roster and the coach. The coach is stubborn and isn’t getting enough out of the players and the roster as constructed simply isn’t good enough to contend. I’m at the point where I would not be sad if both Brad and Darryl were gone in the summer

My thoughts exactly. We want to simply blame one individual or another. But it's possible it's just not working as a whole. The players, gm, head coach and staff.

Huberdeau with 42 points on the year. Might not get to 50. That’s an epic failure for everyone involved. GM, coach and player.

That post was worth thanking for the exit of Geoff Ward alone. One of the worst head coaches in Flames history. A wasted year with him and that core is part of the reason we are in the mess we are now.

The man signed a new contract in October for two more seasons, Sutter is going nowhere.

He did a great job with the squad last year, getting the most out of two star players playing for their next contract.
Why we signed Sutter to an extension a year out from this contract ending, I’ll never know.
Where was he going to go? He was willing to come out of retirement for Calgary or Chicago as the story goes. We were afraid he was going to jump ship to the Blackhawks after another successful campaign this year?
Now Sutter is set in his stubborn ways and daring the Flames to fire him. Or fire (not re-sign) the guy above him and give Sutter more say/power. We all know which is more likely, including him.
He got one GM fired before and then ran this Franchise off the tracks. The unfinished business appears like another derailment.

I'm not there either, but I would have thanked it at the time.
Sutter was clearly an upgrade over Ward. He just has a short shelf life.

His offensive deployment is part of the problem for sure.
He's been playing the 4th line too much when we are down a goal all season, the top 9 still is a bit if a mish mash of pieces that havent meshed, and generally he hasnt made adjustments when needed.
Huberdeau-Lindholm-Toffoli
Dube - Kadri - Pelletier
Mangiapane- Backlund - Coleman
Ruzicka - Lewis - Duehr
How about we try that for one game even

I'm on board with give him full control. Deal is he has to do both jobs. He can't hire a coach.

Didn't the Flames fire both Hartley and Peters shortly after extensions?
I don't think it's unprecedented.

I want him nowhere close to the GM role. Screw that.

You have to wonder who they’d replace him with. Likely someone cheap, unproven. Goodie.
