That math seems off to me or maybe I don't understand commercial leases. A 28 year lease signed in 2013 would expire in 2041, by my calculations. Was there an exit clause or something like that after 18 years?

Don't forget "state-of-the-art" but that term doesn't seem to mean what it used to mean.

It's new math!
Probably just a typo.

Sorry, just a typo. 18 years. That's still preposterously long.

The lease will be old enough to drink, only to have its life ended.

Sad to die so young from asbestos.

The part that's most asinine to me is Nexen had been the anchor tenant in the building since 2000; how could they not know it had asbestos in it? The building was built in the early '80s (opened in '82): of course it has asbestos in it! Any office building of that vintage, and older, has asbestos in it.
People panic when they hear the word "asbestos" and it's just silly. It poses no danger at all as long as you don't disturb it. It was a fantastic fireproofing material.

I don't think Nexen cared, when they got bought by the Chinese at a massive premium and then oil took a nosedive and then Trudeau decided to cancel virtually all the pipelines, that's when CNOOC "cared".

Well, yeah, that's precisely why I think it was just a shameless ploy to get out of their lease.

Cross Iron seems like kind of a weird spot for Uncle Tetsu. They'd probably do gang busters in a trendy place that gets a lot of foot traffic like 17th Ave SW, 4th Street SW, or Kensington

Given how stupidly busy the Jollibee and bubble tea spots are, I don't think they'll have an issue. Anything with an Asian flavor seems to do gangbusters at that mall

Ok, this isn't a Calgary business, and it's online only, but DPReview.com is shutting down. The Calgary connection is that their YouTube channel is run by Chris and Jordan, who cut their teeth at the Camera Store. Hopefully they can quickly find a new gig.
https://m.dpreview.com/news/59011454...w-com-to-close.
Edit: they're moving to PetaPixel. That didn't take long!

That used to be my go to for camera equipment reviews and opinions. They suggest it’ll stay online for a while but it would be a terrible shame to lose all the reviews and feedbacks over the last 5 or so years. Always good to look at user experiences before picking up used camera gear.

In case anyone’s interested, Nordstroms started their clearance sale yesterday…with a whopping 5% off. They have until June 30, so obviously better deals will eventually come.

Glad to see these two find a home (although I kind of just wonder why they don't do their own thing?). I remember when they were just dudes behind the counter at the Camera Store, and now they are basically camera review royalty, ha.

Eat Crow in Kensington closed down, before that is was Brasserie for years. I did prefer Brasserie to Eat Crow. New restaurant already soft opening in its place, The Continental.
