Legendary win. Now they need at least a draw away and most models have them in the hex unless curacao does something crazy and wins a semi final.
If they don't get a result in Orlando El Salvador likely going to move back ahead with two easy nations league games against minnows left.
Apparently Canada is 4 or 5 pts ahead of ES now. Win against minnows will be worth about 5 pts each. Canada got 17-18 pts today.
Another result and they should be in the hex but not there yet.
Also.. what a GD gongshow of a qualifying format
I'm not 100% sure on the rounding but I have the standings as:
Code:
4 1435 Costa Rica
5 1368 Honduras
6 1340 Canada
7 1336 El Salvador
8 1323 Curacao
9 1310 Panama
10 1281 Haiti
In the November window El Salvador has Montserrat and Dominican Republic. Assuming they win both and that FIFA rounds points off after each match, they'll be at 1344. If Canada draws the US we'll also be at 1344. A loss to the US drops us to 1332 and a win would bump us to 1357.
November Matches:
Honduras: Martinique (A)*, Trinidad & Tobago (H)
Canada: US (A)
El Salvador: Montserrat (H), Dominican Republic (H)
Curacao: Costa Rica (H)
Panama: Mexico (H), United Arab Emirates (friendly)
Haiti: Costa Rica (A)
* = non-FIFA game, no points at stake
Interesting note - if Canada gets a draw or win against the US we win our group and would play two playoff games in June in the last set of matches before the hex is decided. Who's ready for another shot at Honduras in a must-win game?
tl;dr; If Canada beats the US we probably make the hex. If we draw, it will come down to the June playoff games. If we lose, we're going to need a lot of friendlies to make up ground.

And to merge the two ideas, it would be great to see the national team play a friendly at Spruce Meadows some day. I realize that a half-full BMO field can still fit 3x more people than a packed Spruce Meadows, so I'm not talking Canada vs. USA here. But I think that people would still come out for a friendly vs. (insert random Central American country here). It would help grow the following for the CanMNT (or CanWNT for that matter) by playing in some of these "new" markets with neat little stadiums like Calgary, Victoria, Halifax, etc.
I suspect we only get a friendly if three things come to pass:
a) The 12,000 seat stadium gets built at the All Canada Ring
b) we're willing to play a minnow
c) Spruce Meadows is willing to keep the horses off long enough for the pitch to reach reasonable quality.
