I’m going off memory because I did all of this for my kids about a year ago but I believe the answer is yes and if I’m remembering correctly there was some stupid charge of like $0.50 to set it up or link it with the other.

This seems a bit more confusing than it needs to be.

That’s because it is. I remember at the time thinking it would have been difficult for Nintendo to have made it anymore complicated to set up multiple online accounts.

As it stands now, she rarely uses her local account. When we fire up Mario Kart for instance, we are presented with both local accounts and always pick mine. I don't think we've even thought signing into both accounts when playing locally.
|
You may be fine with the individual account if your wife doesn’t play on her own very often, I tried using the individual one for my kids for a while but they both wanted to be able to play under their individual accounts for certain games so I upgraded to the family account.

Ok good stuff. Just saw in the fine print if we buy an individual account and then decide to go with a family account, the money used to buy the individual account is put towards the family one.
So ya, guess I'll go individual and if we opt for family, can do that too.

Here is my recommendations based on what my wife likes:
-Mario party - easy to learn and play together with no real "investment" required. The Switch version also has a mode where you can plan on a team which my wife wants to play almost exclusively
-Super Mario Odyssey - the role of "cappy" is basically a character than cannot die and helps Mario as he does most of the heavy lifting. Absolutely perfect game for a more experienced gamer to play as Mario and a less (or no) experienced gamer to play cappy
-Stardew Valley - not too expensive and something she enjoys playing on her own. Virtually no combat and just a farming type simulator that you slowly develop and grow over time
-Pokemon Sword / Shield - Another one she plays alone. She did play pokemon on gameboy way back in the day so that helps for sure, but it's something she'll pick up on her own from time to time. I think the lack of any real time combat (it's all turn based) is a big draw
-Untitled goose game - Another cheaper one, though its not very long. Good for a laugh and fun to watch someone else play too

Luigi's mansion fits the description too. Fun game. Play a little or play a lot.

Yes, Luigi's mansion was another we played together. Didn't like it as much as the controls just didn't feel intuitive and both my wife and I struggled sometime with what we were trying to do. Don't regret playing it though.

Can I just leave the switch in sleep mode while in the dock, for the most part?

We just bought Katamari Demancy yesterday. That's it. That's the best game ever created. It's incredible.

I did once after I saw an article showing it was possible, but not since. My family plays 90% docked, so getting up off of the couch to turn it on is a massive, first-world inconvenience.
I'm not sure that there is any benefit to every powering it down fully. The battery seems to hold a good charge when un-docked and not in use, and I have noticed no deterioration of the battery over time from spending the majority of time time docked. I bought on release day too, so it has been used a fair bit.

Neither did I.
Ours too is on the dock like 99% of the time but on the rare occasion it's being used handheld, batteries still seem to hold a charge just fine.

?
It'll turn on with the controller when it's fully off.
I shut mine off whenever I transport it. I don't really know why.

Well then - I guess my single test of the feature was just using the button on the console. I assumed that would remove the ability to wake with a wireless controller.

I started second guessing myself and tried it this morning. Wouldn't power up with the controller.

I accepted defeat too early! I was actually going to try it just in case (and definitely not to prove anything), but the Switch was in the basement...

Been playing Zelda Link's Awakening. I played the original, so it's nice to see it all polished up. It's such great game design. You feel like you are exploring and lost at the same time, but stuff you need to progress just happens to be where you need be. You think you are wandering aimlessly, but the game is very subtly guiding you. I've played pretty much every Zelda game, but I think this one does it best.
It's not a super big game, and tough to recommend at full price, but for $50 for a physical version, I don't feel ripped off. The biggest issue is inconstant framerate when to much stuff is happening. Kind of weird they left it like that.

You'll want a Micro SDXC with UHS-1 speed or higher. You can use SDHC but you'll probably be disappointed with how quickly it runs out of storage. With SDXC, 64 GB should be good and 128 GB means you won't need to worry about space.

But you definitely don't need to buy a Nintendo branded one or anything - don't worry about getting one with Mario or mushrooms on it.
