Hahaha, Leafs fans were suggesting hot garbage for Muzzin on HFboards, wonder how hard they're taking reality

Muzzin's relatively low contract makes this work for the Leafs. He's always had great advanced stats, be curious how he does with another team

I like this for both sides.

Muzzin ain’t a rental, if he was it would be much different. He’s signed next year on a bargain and they’ll probably try to make room for him after the contract expires as defence is their weakness and he probably steps in as their number 2

LA gets two good prospects and a 1st, which is great value especially due to their position. If I were them id try to keep makin deals with guys like Martinez, toffoli, brown, etc and keep doughty and kopitar for the rebuild

The Leafs should go crazy this deadline with rentals before their cap blows up this summer.

Aha! It appears the Leafs have acquired exactly what they needed: a left-handed shot defenseman.

... wait... *checks roster*... Oh. Oh no. This isn't any good at all. Why?

I loved Grundstrom at the world juniors. I think he’s the best piece here (going to LA)

Seems like a decent trade for Toronto. People need to lose the left shot + right shot = defense pairing level of binary thinking because the best pairing in the league right now is two left shots.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Muzzin will partner with Morgan Rielly and allows Babcock to move Hainsey down to 3rd pairing. Will be an excellent resource for Dermott.

Hamonic like return for one less year and slightly less AAV

edit: actually roughly 1.5 years for Muzzin vs 3 years for Hamonic

This is a good price to pay by Toronto. Only problem is they wanted a RHD. Perhaps Muzzin or someone on their roster is comfortable swapping sides ala Brodie.

Good deal for Toronto.
They're in a bit of a tail-spin, desperately need a solid defenseman, and their first isn't going to be in the top half of the draft.

I thought Hamonic had 3 seasons left on his deal when he was acquired and Muzzin has a season and a few months left?

Muzzin isn't as good as he used to be.

Seems like a fair deal.

I don't think anyone robbed anyone. I don't think it's a win-win either. It's simply a meh deal, though if what they say is it's a good deep draft year, the first round pick can amount to something but that's a big if considering it'll be a very low 1st. Muzzin's not exactly killing it so hopefully he can turn it around, but it's a meh. Pretty much ensures that there won't be many deals for d-men until the deadline if this is the deal that sets that bar.
