Default *Help* Trying to save old tapes, vhs, 8-track

Hi, my father passed away a few months ago. I inherited all of our home videos and recordings my faher did on vhs video tapes, 8-track tapes, cassetes and all that. I would like to preserve these memories on a modern format.
Im not dumb, but where can you find an 8-track recorder player to dvd???
I have vhs to dvd recorders and stuff, but I would like some advice please on how to get it all done properly
Yes I have contacted most of the local prople thay offer this service, but for 1 VHS tape to DVD only 2 hrs (that i can do) is $40
Not alot of money to spend, would like help for direction please!

Thank-you

I had a number of Super 8 video and VHS old family movies done at Costco. As I recall, their prices were much better than several other places. Good luck!

One solution is to get a video capture card/device for a computer and then burn a DVD/CD or save it to a hard drive.

I assume you have a working device to play back these old formats anyway.

Something like this would work:

And if it is just audio most computers already have an audio input or microphone input and you can connect something like this to that port and record the audio:

8 Track tape is audio and it's very rare for anybody to have personal recorded material as it was all commercial pre-recorded songs that were released.

Do you mean Super 8 Video?

My parents held on to their 8-track player. If you're near Kelowna you could probably arrange to borrow it.

We used this place a few years ago and they did a great job for a reasonable price.

Having been involved in a family effort to convert a variety of tape formats to digital via a "capture card"....just dont. It is a humongous pain in the arse and time suck since it needs to sit there and play in real time. After a tonne of time spent we got 1/3 through it and the project ended with no tangible results.

I don't care who you pay, just pay someone.

Why not simply play them in their native format.

Because "vhs video tapes, 8-track tapes, cassetes and all that" is super inconvenient compared to playing them all on a couple dvd's. I don't know one person who has an 8 track, cassette, AND a VHS player.
