Still not good, i'm not sure whats going on. I would like to think that I am able to solve this but without changing hardware I don't see how I can make an improvement, and I don't remember this being a problem in the past

I would also try reinstalling/updating (or perhaps rolling back to an earlier version) your video drivers. If you aren't having any buffering issues yet the picture is choppy them perhaps the video card isn't doing any acceleration and it is being offloaded to the CPU.

my problem was noticed on gamecenter, but not limited to only gamecenter.

i know all about the adaptive, basically itll go as high quality as the smoothness allows, for me that is 400 kbps, the bare minimum, which means adaptive gets turned off, and down to 400 just to make it solid since 800 gets too choppy.

Ive done so.

my last 'update' for my 7800gt card was in 2005. my motherboard, etc about the same. ive got some old stuff, but it is still capable of being better than this.

I agree to the bolded. I just dont know how to fix it at the moment

I can order a new 4850 HD video card from ncix for 60$+HST, I'll give that a go and get some newer drivers, hardware, etc

What resolution are you running? I notice some improvement switching down from 1920x1080 to 1280x720 which I assume is probably native resolution for these feeds.

What would be my best choice for tech help? a good thorough evaluation? tomshardware or major geeks or anything better?

I definitely need my current setup to play better. ordering a hd4850 512mb card for $75 +HST - $15 MIR

Dumb question, but what happens if you right click on the flash video and disable hardware acceleration. Does it change the behaviour at all?

No, get a newer card. Even something lower endish will be OK. There’s no substitute for the h.264 acceleration, and h.264 is creeping in under the covers of all kinds of flash related sites.

Truly solved.

I did remember a time when things ran better, and it turns out that it was when i upgraded my flash to 10 that it went south.

I'm running 9.0.28 now, and youtube and everything runs fine. NHL gamecenter requires 10.1 though, and I just purchased a month of it...

my card options were:

GT240 @ $40 + HST after MIR
HD 4850 @ $60 + HST after MIR

will prolly just go with the 4850 so i can try a couple modern games.

I can run Game Center Live with an old Dell Celeron 2.4GHz with a 6200 PCI video card at 400kps using Flash 10.1. You should easily do better.

Maybe I'm not understanding you but the new drivers from Nvidia work on older cards. There was a new driver out yesterday.

I updated all of my drivers specific to the devices, alot of them are atleast 4 years since the last one.

Problem was solved anyway, my card does not support 10.1 flash hardware accelerating. I downgraded 9.0.28 flash and its all working well, except for the programs that require 10.1

new graphics card is coming

Update with new HD 4850 card. I still get choppy streamed video just the same, I upgraded the flash now that I have a modern card and played around with accelerator options. no change..

How bad is it? I wonder how good their feeds get?

Mine is watchable at the high bit rates, but still looks like it is missing frames in fast pans, etc. My pc is certainly not high end, but has a 2.9 GHz 3 core processor and modern video card. Does anyone (who is fairly picky about this kind of thing) get perfectly smooth broadcast quality framerates at 3000 mbs? I can watch 1080p movies very smoothly.

It's as bad as only being able to watch the MINIMUM settings of anything streamed (lived or fully buffered).

3000 would be nice
so would anything at about 1200 or higher.

I'm stuck at 400, the minimum, where the sound is grainy and the picture is very very blurry. My computer is fairly aged, but I watched programs online over the years and can only recall it getting bad for the last 2 years or so.

I just watched a 720p movie from my harddrive, it is crisp, clear, and smooth, as it was with my old 7800gt.

but even an episode of seinfeld from 1990 would be choppy if it has internet streaming relation
