Weird. I have actually been quite pleased with what I have seen from Mangiapane so far.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm (it works)
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik (this also works)
Dube - Jankowski - Bennett (Dube is smarter and faster than Neal)
Mangiapane - Ryan - Lucic (has already shown signs that it works: speed and grit)
Czarnik, Rinaldo (Czarnik for when they need speed/offence, Rinaldo for grit)

I prefer:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Dube - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Jankowski

Hot swap Bennett and Tkachuk on occasion

I think the Rittich / Talbot duo is going to be one of the best in the league this year, esp. with the solid D in front on them.

I thought Lucic looked better on his off wing last night as well ... specifically in his own zone.

After watching AC's Bennett highlight video yesterday, I am wondering if there isn't some tantalizing chemistry between Bennett and Ryan. I could see a rotation of:

Dube · Jankowski · Mangiapane/Bennett
Lucic · Ryan · Bennett/Mangiapane

Last night was the first time Lucic has shown anything resembling an NHL game, so I agree using him on his off wing may be the way to go.

He looks a bit leaner and may be a tad quicker (in context) than my viewings of him the last couple seasons, so hopefully that's a precursor to not being a complete boat anchor moving forward.

I do like him in front of the net though...he is near impossible to move if he so chooses.

Interesting line there.......Quine/Ryan/Rieder. And Kylington/Stone as a possible 7/8. Looks like Oliver might be getting sent down after all.

Just because its fun to play around with lines.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm ( it works don't fix it)
Mangiapane- Backlund - Frolik ( A good line for a rookie)
Lucic -Bennett - Tkachuk ( pure spite)
Dube -Ryan - Jankowski ( a surprisingly offensive fourth line)

Czarnik
Rieder

If Tkachuk does jump to the top line, I agree that Dube is the perfect fit for Backlund's line.

But with Lindholm at C, Jankowski becomes a square peg.

Kylington might be a cap casualty, he makes about 31k more than stone this year in terms of AAV.

This is an interesting thought. Bennett and Lucic together would be hilarious.

Bennett - Ryan - Lucic
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Dube/Czarnik

Bennett and Dube could be reverseable, depending on matchups, how things are going, etc.

And when you need a gritty lineup, you slip Rinaldo into Dube's spot on the 4th line.

With Tkachuk being re-signed, I wonder if Peters tries Lindholm at centre like he wanted to?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Bennett
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Jankowski
Dube/Mangiapane/Czarnik - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Dube/Mangiapane/Czarnik

I think keeping everyone in pairs would work:
Gaudreau - Monahan and Backlund Frolik as the spine of the team.

Lindholm can play with either Bennett or Tkachuk (or both). That should hopefully make for a strong line.

Jankowski would be pushed to the wing - maybe Lindholm's or even the top line if he works out better over Dube, Mangiapane or Czarnik. I think Jankowski is going to take a step this season regardless.

The 4th pair makes sense with Ryan and Lucic.

Peters likes to mix things up anyway, so the extra wingers on every line can just rotate through. I don't like Tkachuk on the same line with Monahan and Gaudreau - it didn't seem to work well, and Lindholm should probably get a rather 'proven' guy to play with in terms of production if he is going to try and centre a scoring line - having Jankowski or Bennett on the right side allows them to take face-offs on their strong side too.

Gives Peters the ability to roll 4 lines a bit easier (if it works out) as you don't really have to shelter the 3rd line any longer (as it should be a strong line with whomever is beside Backlund). He can roll those lines evenly 5on5, which should hopefully help in the long grind that the season is.

Hopefully the rotating wingers end up sticking with certain lines and developing some chemistry. Might work.

I still really want to see a Mangiapane-Ryan-Bennett line tried if we keep the same top-6 as last year. They were so good with Hathaway and Bennett is an upgrade in every way but handedness.

And opposite side...cant overlook that. RH guys seem to be more popular to have around as extra guy for some reason...or at least thats my perception.

Also, having OK here as the 7th guy makes no sense in terms of his development. Playing regularly as a #1 in the AHL is leaps and bounds better than riding the pine and only practicing with the big club.

Agreed, but I think the conversation is more likely centred on Kylington v. MacDonald for the #6 slot. Stone will be the #7 defenseman.
