Yes, they sent me an e-mail that it will download tomorrow actually -- then it checks the time server side for unlocking. So at 9:59 PM next week I start mashing on it over and over until someone on the Nintendo side presses the button.

I got a phone call as well. But I can live with not getting the pin set.

Right? Right?!

Spoiler!

I've pre-ordered from Gamestop for the Thursday 10pm pickup, but kind of torn on if I want a physical copy or virtual.

What's everyone else's thoughts on the pros and cons?

Physical for me if I have the choice. Nevermind that physical seems to hold/increase in value pretty well.

I'll be grabbing a couple vouchers from the eshop for this one. Usually I'm all about physical copies so I can resell but I've owned my copy of BOTW since release. Plus two games for $135 isn't bad with game prices sitting at $90.

Yep this is the way to go -- considering that you can pick up $100 of eShop points at Costco for $90 (saving another $5 per game) and get kicked back like $6 worth of gold points, you can really shave the cost off first party games heavily with the vouchers. Nintendo games stay full price MSRP and won't go on sale for years - it's the only way to get any significant savings on them at launch, I'm happy they brought the vouchers back.

Prior to vouchers I would say go physical all the time for resale value,

Is there a place that takes pre orders for Zelda for pickup on Friday? What are the chances it's sold out if I go somewhere on Friday afternoon?

I called Video Game Trader and put one on hold, but I did that a while ago. You could try calling them and see if they have any copies left to pre-order.

I pre-ordered (and pre-paid) from GameStop and they guarantee that my copy will be there whenever I pick it up (I'm aiming for Friday at lunch). I'd ask if they have any more pre-orders left.

Also, as Mazrim says, try Video Game Trader. A good, classic, local business. They're just so damn far from my house.

Gamestop. I pre-ordered and voluntarily pre-paid at the Chinook one and it will be available for pickup Thursday at 10pm, or anytime after.

I’ll be going digital. It’s just too convenient these days.

We’re also in an era where games are going to be backwards compatible moving forward. It’s so much easier to manage a digital collection and download them to a new console instead of storing cases, discs, cartridges, etc.

I used to mostly go physical because I liked to lend my games to family or trade them in for a discount on something new, but I’m at an age now where I would rather just keep my collection moving forward.

Haha that’s a fair point. I can’t imagine they don’t go backwards compatible but I suppose crazier things have happened.

Heh, though I do recall that they did let the DS play GBA games. And the 3DS did play DS games.

The Wii played Gamecube games, and the Wii U played Wii games. They’ve been reasonably good with B/C over the years.

Physical media not digital games

Wii, Wii U, Switch have their own stores that don't cross over

Stuff I bought on my Xbox 360 plays on my series X

Now I’m thinking I might just do digital download so I can start playing at 10pm vs wait in line. Man I’m so stoked for this to have finally come out.

High critical acclaim too, like there was any doubt at this point. Highest rated game on OpenCritic at the moment:

Nintendo went scorched earth on emulators and game dump software because of the leak. That made me look into emulation and it works surprisingly well. Thanks, Nintendo! I paid for TOTK but now I'll be able to play in 4K60 on my PC.
