In the past 30 years there has only been a handful of times where I ran around like an idiot after a sporting event.
-Fleury's OT goal against the Oilers in Game 6 in 1991
-Holyfield knocking out Tyson in their first fight in 1996
-Joe Carter hitting the walk off home run in 93 against the Phillies
-Jacques Villenueve winning the F1 world championship when effing Schumacher drove his car intentionally into him and knocked himself out of the race in 1997
-Gelinas scoring the OT goal in game 7 against the Canucks in 2004
and
Bailey beating that American dbag Michael Johnson in the 150 meter showdown at Skydome. This was my proudest moment as a Canadian! kinda lame but there was so much trash talk and crap coming out of the Americans after the 1996 Olympics it still makes my blood boil today. and the only time I have ever bought a Canadian flag.

That was such a Canadian moment. I've never watched track and field events in my life but I still remember the names Donovan Bailey, Robert Esmie, Bruny Surin, and Glenroy Gilbert.

The least exciting thing in the world was that race between Bailey and Johnson.
Give me the 1996 gold medal race any day of the week.
Are you kidding? The race was hyped for 7 months pitting the US media vs the Cdn. Broadcast in over 50 countries and 2.6million cdns tuned into a 15 second race!
The 96 gold medal race would have been a lot better if Cheetah Linford Christie didn't take 5 minutes to leave the track after getting disqualified for a false start. Killed the mood.

Don Whittman was the voice of track and 80s hockey for Flames games out west. The Johnson call in 1988, and then the two in 1996.
Bailey's race was the first Saturday night, the relay, the second, thus the reference at the end.
I would say there was more American hype for this relay than the 150m sham. That build up was mostly all on the Canadian side, and Johnson played the villain long enough to make sure he got his cut of the purse.
The 1996 relay, in the USA, was hyped by NBC to be America's race on the final night of the games, the whole week.
Again, what a call by Whittman.

Bailey's 100m win was a "where were you when it happened" moment for sure. Just the surge as he came from behind and then the explosion when he crossed the finish line. Chills...

I could watch this a billion times - one of my favorite sporting moments ever

Sometimes people forget how talented we were on that 4x100 relay.
Glenroy Gilbert and Robert Esmie were the forgotten men on a team that featured Donovan Bailey and Bruni Surin
Gilbert ran a ridiculous 2nd leg, 9.02 seconds. the race was all over after that- you give that to Surin/Bailey even tied and no way Canada loses but he gave them a lead

Whittman was arguably the best when it came to Olympic calls. This one is right up there with his Simon Whitfield call in Sydney.

Such a happy memory. Watched that 100m relay race at my late grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Me and Grandpa hollering at the TV in the bar. Outstanding.

For me the Atlanta 100m and 4x100m is easily my proudest "balls are bigger" moment. Nothing else really comes close for me.
The rumble in the Skydome jungle was always going to be a Bailey victory. The fact Johnson faked an injury once he say that Bailey wasnt having any problems with the curve was just icing on the cake.
I have always wondered why TSN has never done a 30 for 30 style with Canadian sports. Are there just no good independent Canadian directors out there that know anything about sports? I am tired of the CBC style crap we get, we deserve better imo. These are just the moments from the top of my head, Who wouldnt be watching and buying this DVD box set?
Atlanta 4x100 and 100m
Canada Cup with Esposito
Flames vs Oilers / Calgary vs Edmonton
Oilers Dynasty / boys on the bus
Pocklingtons troubles and selling 99
Canadiens Dynasty
Original 6, the good, the bad, and the ugly
Rocket Ismail
Doug Flutie
Pinball Clemons
Gizmo Williams
Eskimos dynasty
The Forum
HNIC
Harold Ballard
Nordiques leaving and becoming a dynasty in Colorado
Expos leaving on the year they had a great WS chance
Blue Jays World Series
And these are the ones that are off the top of my head. Most of the 30 for 30 shows were things I never heard of that ended up being amazing to watch.
If anyone ever did something like this the first thing to remember is it has to be a compelling story first and Canadian second. CBC to often puts the Canadian first and story second.

On Monday it's Larry Walker vs Jacques Villeneuve.
I have not followed baseball ever since the MLB player's strike in 1994 with the Expos having the best team in baseball that year. The would have definitely won the world series.

There was a good 30 for 30 on the Gretzky trade.

The Villeneuve one was definitely memorable for me. The race was in Europe so it was a 635am start time. When Schumacher intentionally crashed into JV it was around 715am in a hotel in Vancouver when i started freaking out. The front desk manager called my room 5 mins later and read me the riot act.. haha
Oh it was pacific time and was at 615am. No wonder they were so pissed.
