Not necessarily coaching related but they were talking about Jarome Iginla this morning on 960 and his involvement with the team. They also talked a bit about putting a positive spin on the team this off-season after a horrendous last season.

It got me thinking and I wonder if they hire Iginla for a role prior to the draft and then have him announce their draft pick..

Love the idea of Jarome announcing the pick. That said I can also see Conroy wanting to make the first pick of his tenure as GM.

Clearly they need to make a deal for a 2nd pick in round 1

Have many coaches gone straight from the AHL to NHL and lit it up?

I’m going to guess the majority send a year or two as an assistant

Bruce Boudreau comes to mind. Got to Calder Cup finals, was promoted to NHL, then Washington led the division in all of his full seasons there.

Cooper as well. The Crunch led the league and won the championship, then Cooper was promoted. Tampa finished with over 100 points in Cooper's first full season.

Dan Bylsma was coaching in the AHL, was promoted midseason, then won the Stanley Cup the same season.

Pittsburgh fire Bylsma to get Sully and they won thr cup with him.

I'm more worried about a CHL coach with limited head coaching experience but no doubt a bright mind.
