The big question for me now is how much power did McCarthy give away to seal this deal? Specifically to people like the alleged pedophiliac Gaetz? Will be interesting to see what he promised over the past few days.

Yeah agreed. The problem for him moving forward now is that it is proven that he cannot ever trust some members of his own party. Tough to govern when they may say something to him behind closed doors but then change their minds on a whim when it's time to vote. It won't be boring, anyways.

Funny how it's the Republicans having an issue on January 6th, again.

And this is exactly why it is on the chopping block:

“The IRS and U.S. Department of Treasury have said that these positions are for a range of roles, and it would not proportionally increase audits on those making under $400,000.”

How about above 400k, who is all the Republicans truly care about?

This is sarcasm right?

Fox News is not an 'news outlet'; they are a propaganda source.

I don't think Street Pharmacists shows that the quote in the tweet is misinformation. I think it actually confirms it is more or less correct.

Not arguing against Fox News horribleness.

I think the Dutch House of Representatives has ~13 parties (plus a bunch of independents). It just turns into a coalition system.

I'm beginning to wonder if having a foundational part of your democracy becoming "reaching agreement and working with others with differing viewpoints" would be a very very good thing for what is happening in the US and to a some extent Canada.

I watched the 'January 6th' documentary where they interviewed independent news outlets that were on the grounds as well as law enforcement who were there.

Wild, wild stuff. Whats really crazy is in the interviews with the Capitol police officers who were defending the Capitol how close it came to a complete disaster. Moreso than it already was.

In one interview an officer said that he and his fellow officers were at the end of their ropes and just decided that they didnt want to die in that hallway and if it came to shooting their way out they were 3-5 minutes away from just running out guns blazing.

Fully acknowledging that if they did that the crowd would fire back with their own guns and the whole scenario turns into an absolute blood bath, but the officers had just been pushed to their absolute limits.

And then the Virginia National Guard showed up and it was like a gulp of fresh air to a drowning man.

But it was close. Closer than most people realize.

Look at the number of officers who committed suicide days afterwards from PTSD.

Those officers were pushed to the absolute edge. And then over it. And there are a lot of people in positions of power who should be goddamned ashamed.

I watched a bit of that too (on CNN, right?). It still amazes me that not a single shot was fired throughout the however many hours it went on for except for the one that killed that one woman. All the elements needed to justify the authorities opening fire were there, yet nobody did.

Honestly, a think a lot of that is down to, as cliched as it may sound, mutually assured destruction.

During BLM protests and a lot of what we saw during 2020, etc, the firepower was typically one-sided, its on law enforcement's side.

Not so here.

At the Capitol riot it was pretty well acknowledged that the edge regarding firepower was probably on the side of the crowd, just through sheer numbers.

You're talking thousands of people outside, if one out of every hundred of them had a gun the Cops were out-gunned by...I couldnt even begin to guess.

If those Cops had come out of that hallway guns blazing it would essentially be a re-enactment of the final scene of 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.'

And they knew it. They knew there was going to be blood on both sides of the floor.

But they were at their limits. They'd been holding and fighting and getting the crap kicked out of them for HOURS.

The fact that their superiors and other law enforcement agencies abandoned them for hours and hours because armed troops on the Capitol lawn would have bad optics?

Oh man...if I was one of those Cops? I'd be livid.

Theres just something less intimidating about a mob of people in soccer jerseys and floral patterned tropical shirts, shorts and sandals.

It just seems a little more festive.
