Default Bed Bugs on a Plane - Heeby Jeeby Factor 100000

http://nationalpost.com/news/canada/...ng-says-expert

Quote:
VANCOUVER — A British Columbia woman plagued by bedbugs on a nine-hour flight to London is a victim of the explosive growth in the critters globally, but travellers shouldn’t worry they’ll become a common feature on planes, says an entomologist.

Heather Szilagyi was on a British Airways flight with her seven-year-old daughter and fiancee Eric Neilson on Oct. 10 when she said they noticed what appeared to be bedbugs crawling out of the seat in front of them.

She said the flight attendants couldn’t move them because there were no other available seats on the plane. After landing, Szilagyi discovered they were covered in bites.

“To actually see them pouring out of the back of the TV on the seat, that was actually really gross,” she said. “Once we arrived at our Airbnb … we put everything through the washing machine on the hottest heat we could, put everything in plastic bags, sanitized everything that we could.”

What would you do? You're on a long flight. There are no other seats. you're with you kid. The Flight Attendent says they can't put you anywhere else - and even if you stand in the aisle for the entire 7 hour flight, you have to be seated for landing.

I have a serious case of the heeby jeebies

Does that beat the getting stung by a scorpion on a flight?

I'd see how many I could smoosh in an hour and then try to beat that score.

I hope BA compensated the family, but knowing how airlines work these days I kind of doubt it.

That's gross. That's why I get the heebee jeebees just going to hotels and AirBNBs that don't look completely clean.

I don't know what I would do, but I would be very uncomfortable for that whole flight. I don't know if alcohol kills them, but I would probably ask for a bottle of vodka and soak the seat.

I feel bad for the person running the AirBNB they went to as well. Their place probably has them now too.

not a cool story, but BA told my cousin to pound sand when she had to cancel a trip to Calgary because of breast cancer diagnosis.

That super sucks, but honestly, that's what travel insurance is for. I can't blame the airline - they're running a business and I think it's unfair to hold them responsible for somebody else's medical troubles. They sell insurance specifically to address unforeseen problems like this.

I would honestly ask to just stand in any 1 sq ft piece of space on the plane.

I'd call Samuel L Jackson. He's super tired of creepy things on crappy planes.

Yep, I agree. I should have mentioned that she was pursuing a ticket transfer over to her brother and his wife more than a refund, which they also wouldn't agree to, but anyway- I don't want a 'hey look at me' tangent on the thread, so back to the bugs. Was just trying to comment on the ruthlessness of airlines/BA as far as compensation etc.
