Just bought a Dyson vacuum. Did I waste my $$ or is it worth it?

Be ridiculously gay like my wife and I and vacuum a section of carpet thoroughly with your old machine and then go over it again with your new Dyson.

You'll realize how awesome they are after that...

You still need to actually cut the pet hair out of the rotating brush every month or so... if you have a large dog that occasionally sheds a smaller dog.

Customer service top notch too, the main wand (we have the cannister) had an issue that cracked the main hose. One phone call, 1 minute on the phone (already registered the product online) and an entire new wand was here in about a week

If it pulls out the amount of hair those pictures show, worth every penny IMO. For a cat owner anyway, never owned a dog, I don't have one now but we may be getting a cat soon and I am totally getting one of those brushes.

They are nothing compared to the average central vac. Spend the money and get a good power head for the hose, nothing will come close. Also, exhaust it outside, not dust in the house.

Don't get a cat, no matter what type of vacuum you have.

We own 2 cats and a dog, our house is 80% carpet. We bought our Dyson Animal Ball about 7 years ago. It's unreal we honestly get complements on how hair free our home is. We turned 3 friends into Dyson fans by telling them to vacume with their central vac them lent them our Dyson and them and they were instant fans.

If they are using a central vac without a power nozzle, then yah, anything with a power nozzle can grab more hair. But a central vac with a power nozzle is a much better system than a Dyson. Even a cheap central vac is more powerful. A ventilated decent central vac with a power nozzle makes a Dyson look like a toy.

I love my Dyson....no complaints. Also purchased the handheld unit...short battery life but powerful. Consider registering it online and signup for the maintenance emails. It remind you to clean your filters etc. which is recommended if you want this thing to last forever. It is very easy to clean. Might be worth keeping an eye on the Futureshop flyers too as they often sell it with a free attachment package.

Expensive yes, but worth every penny. They are very solid and don't break like other pet brushes and don't hurt the animal in any way. Hands down the best pet product I've ever had.

I have a central vac with a power nozzle, and no.. it is not a better system than a Dyson.

It was gross how much dust and dirt the dyson picked up after we went over it with our central vac.

I too have lived in houses with cental vac. I've never been overly impressed with them... and the central vacs I've used have also had powerheads. Sure... lots of suction but there is more to a good vacuum cleaner than lots of suction.

I mean.. how efficient is the suction at the powerhead? A good powerhead shouldn't leak suction... as in ...all the vacuum force should be directed below the beater brush into the carpet. There should be a good seal between the bottom of the powerhead and the carpet/floor. A leaky seal will allow the vacuum to draw from areas other than below the powerhead... which is not good.

Only downside to the Dyson... is how often I have to empty the canister...
