Default PSA - Crashplan stopping personal service

Crashplan is going to stop offering their personal service, I know a number of people use it, just in case they already didn't know.

Yeah, saw this on Reddit...I haven't gotten around to planning an offsite backup solution yet.

What are the alternatives? Backblaze?

My subscription just renewed for the year too. They are adding 3 months on to plans and honoring the original expiration dates. They have partnered with Carbonite to give discounts on their plans.

I was going to move to Backblaze myself. I don't know of any other options.

I'm in the same boat, will have to do some research. I may just take them up on their offer to do the small business solution at a cheap rate for the first year, giving me more time to look into other cloud options (or my own solution).

My problem is I have 855GB currently backed up (and recently re-uploaded), so having to move that all is sort of undesirable at the moment. As well, CrashPlan was unlimited but it appears that doesn't exist with the other services.

Backblaze is my choice. It's far better than Carbonite IMO.

Backblaze publishes cool reports on drive failures. Love my HGST drives!

They are sooo bad. Just today I disassembled a few failed ones, and 2 of the 2 TB drives had heads that had cratered into every platter, in the same way. I've taken many drives apart before, and never seen that kind of damage. I suspect the bearings failed, as they were tough to turn. I stopped buying them after I had several 1TB's fail, even after the firmware update that was supposed to save them.

Yeah I was thinking it was the WDs that had issues and just bought a 5TB Seagate.
