The playoffs showed that Price still has it in him. Do I think he can sustain that over a full season like he used to? No. but I think we see a bit of a resurgence from him this year now that he has a backup that can take a significant chunk of the workload from him.
Montreal better hope so at least or else paying over 14 million for your goalies is going to look even worse than it already does.
I don't see Hellebucyk at the same level as some ... he had a great year, but was pedestrian in the play in against Calgary, and off the season before that.
I certainly won't suggest Markstrom is better than Price, the resumes are just so vastly different it would be silly to dig in.
But in the last two years it is interesting to note that in the last two seasons Markstrom has had to battle more than Price as Price five on five was ranked 37th in xG/60 while Markstrom is ranked 8th.
The big question is how Markstrom reacts to a more average team defense. Mike Smith needed to be under siege to be at his best, hopefully Markstrom isn't the same.

Savard is 74 so, maybe?

Price was the better goalie for their careers, and his top end is still elite, but he hasn’t brought that consistently for 3-4 seasons now.
Markstrom has been better than Price by pretty much any analytic each of the last 3 seasons, and had a pretty good playoff himself.
At this point in their careers I’m not sure it’s that crazy to say Markstrom is better than Price.
The stats show that it’s been the case for three seasons now, and Price just gets the “but he was tired” excuse. If anything Markstrom actually had the tougher work load.
It’s not a home run based on Price ability at the top end but it’s not a ridiculous statement to make. If anything there is more evidence backing up Scorps point than those from the other side.
One thing we can all agree on though is that Markstrom and Price are both better than either of Edmonton’s goalies. And that overall Edmonton is no good.
