That’s probably because Calgary is not Vancouver, Toronto, or major cities in Europe or Asia.
We’re small fish. We get infrastructure appropriate for small fish.

So your stance is to not improve it and build an arena instead.
Seems logical.

Makes sense to me, the city’s budgetary situation recently changed and this money can be better used on transportation. The Dome is fine.

It will be fine if the Hitmen is the only game in town. Which it surely will be if this were to go through.

Regrettably, as the Owners have said, the Dome is fine, just not for NHL hockey long term.

I predict this will be a well debated thread with several posters seeing the information and then changing their opinion on this matter.

He is another council member that voted against the arena deal, his vote supporting Evan Wooley means very little....

The best part of having the deal arena deal completed was not having to talk about the arena deal anymore. Here we go again.

Just providing the update regarding Farkas. Like I said before this will require 10 votes, incredibly unlikely it passes.

First Line Centre

Actually the north part of the city needs the green line (or BRT lanes along Center St) bad. The current proposal to build just to 16 Ave is not good enough, it needs to go to at least McKnight or 64 Ave.
But, redirecting funding from the arena project to infrastructure is a good start.

If the city pulls out of the deal, the Flames pull out of Calgary. It's super simple.
No way they get the required 10 votes - they need to swing 6 additional votes from the original vote.
The money for the arena deal is insignificant when it comes to the overall cost of the green line, which is a freaking disaster of a project that if we really want to talk about cost overruns, the Green Line will be the absolute king.
This is just virtue signaling/grand standing from Farkas and Woolley.

When it comes to grandstanding, you can always count of Farkas to be front and centre.

Quick, call the police! Somebody's holding a gun to pepper24's head and forcing him to talk about arenas on a hockey forum!
