Sutter for no other reason I love the guys interviews and he seems to be a good motivator. Which is what Calgary needs more than anything.

The problem with hiring Sutter, whom I love, is that we would have to trade half the forwards and 2/3rds of the defence for his style to work.

One good thing is we would have a crap ton of cap space after!

I don't think so. Sutter likes a brand of hockey, it's true. But he is also smart enough to let skill guys like Gaudreau do what they do. He had Huselius, he acquired Tanguay, Jokinen, Cammi. And I don't mind some Sutteresque advice for Kylington, Hanifin or even Brodie.

I assume Gio and he are fine now.

Based on Treliving's record, I'd prefer he try to trade coaches with another franchise rather than go the UFA route.

Treliving has the rare opportunity to select a third coach. This will the last coach he hires. After that he is done.

We should hire Darryl Sutter, the coach we should have hired last summer.

I wonder if part of the reason they haven’t officially fired Peters yet is because they are finalizing something with his replacement and want to announce who is taking over ASAP?

Probably true. And Treliving is likely to resign, if he is forced to hire Sutter against his own judgement.

What Treliving should really do is have a list of coaches he'd want to hire every year and give them only one year contracts or fire a coach at the end of every year. Maybe it'll provide a way for the team to succeed every year rather than having a good year every other year. That'll keep things fresh!

Don’t know if it would be the right time, but Mike Van Ryn is a future NHL head coach and would be a fresh face to try and change the culture and direction

The interviews alone would be legendary.

Reporter: "Your third line did a great job tonight"

Darryl: "Uh, who was that again?"

Reporter: "Lucic - Ryan - Dube"

Darryl: "Oh them. Yeah. They were good"
