Pacific Division opponents meet when Kings host the Flames

BOTTOM LINE: The Los Angeles Kings face the Calgary Flames in a matchup of Pacific Division teams.

Los Angeles has a 40-20-9 record overall and a 10-4-3 record in Pacific Division games. The Kings have a +nine scoring differential, with 231 total goals scored and 222 allowed.

Calgary is 31-24-14 overall and 10-4-3 against the Pacific Division. The Flames have a 30-3-13 record in games they score at least three goals.

The Defining Dozen: Analyzing the Flames’ remaining schedule

The Flames need wins — a bunch of ’em.

They are four points out of the final wildcard in the Western Conference with 12 dates remaining. This last stretch, starting with a two-game getaway to SoCal, is ‘The Defining Dozen.’

“It feels like I say it every time I talk to you guys, but we have to get every point we can,” stressed workhorse defenceman Rasmus Andersson during Saturday’s post-game scrums.

Kings’ game against Flames could light a fire

If the Kings had let a tiny bit of malaise seep into their game during a successful stretch that has mostly pitted them against non-playoff teams at home, maybe a good, old-fashioned cage match will reinvigorate the black and silver.

On Monday, they’ll welcome the Calgary Flames and their head coach Darryl Sutter, who guided the Kings to two Stanley Cups and famously said of the atmosphere he expected in a road game 7 that “cages are a good thing.”

I didn't realize the Kings are so good.
The Flames will probably beat them.

Love the offence being generated by Rasmus and Weegar as a pairing. Cheering for a big 2 points, Go Flames!

Blake deserves some credit for making some astute moves in the last few years as they have done a good job blending in youth and experience to what used to be an old team.

The Preds and Jets opened the door. Let's go busting through it, Flames. You can do this.

Win tonight and we’re just 2 (actually 3) behind the Jets who we have a head to head (only one game) against at the end of the season (about a week before the end of the season).

To control their own fate, and appease the snake, the Flames can only afford 2 more regulation losses in the next 12 games.

They could also go 7-0-5 and get 96 points.

I wonder if Lucic draws back in?

The ice time is interesting to watch when the 4th line consists of Lucic and friends its in that 11-12 minute range and when its one of the younger guys they are getting 8 minutes a game.

I think Fiala is still out with a knee injury he suffered vs. Colorado a couple weeks back. He was leading the Kings in points.

Kings have good depth and Kempe followed up his breakout year with a better one. Doughty and Kopitar have both had decent Renaissance seasons too. They also didn't hesitate to bring up Copley who gave them something close to average goaltending to keep them afloat.

Things that went wrong for Calgary went right for L.A. this year. Hence one team is close to the top of the Conference and the others playoff hopes are on life support. Hopefully the Flames can find 4 points in the next two games...although it would be on script to have a OT loss show up.
