Great post, Ziggy! Ritchie is a playmaker with nobody to make plays to. I predict he goes in the early teens, maybe just outside the top-10. Size, skating, lots of skill.

I’m looking for some more opinions on a few guys :

Samuel Honzek, Matthew Wood and Nate Danielson.

Honzek and Danielson are WHL , big framed guys.

Matthew wood is a Lethbridge kid but plays with Sergeev at UCONN. He’s 6’4 with a big time shot and shoots right. Plus he’s a Center.

Those three and Ritchie to me really seem like difference makers and top six guys with size and skill.

Danielson is a favorite of mine, he already plays an NHL style. He can play any situation you want-he can play a shutdown role, PK, PP, and he'll be out in the final minute of a game to either tie it up, or protect a lead. Great 200ft player. He's got size, can skate, has great IQ, and best of all- he drives play through transition. He's an excellent passer, and has a good shot, although he might want to work on it a bit. Brandon is not a great team, so the fact that he leads the team with 58 points in 48 games (7 more than his nearest teammate), says something. I've read that he shrinks a bit in physical games, but I see him battle along the boards and in the corner quite a bit-his assist in the prospects game came from doing the dirty work in the corner, digging out the puck, and throwing it out front for the tap-in. He's a top-6 NHL Center, no doubt.

More to come....

Matt Wood is very intriguing- he just turned 18 A few days ago, and he leads UConn in points, with 27 points in 28 games. I think I read somewhere that he's the second-youngest player in the NCAA, and it's not everyday that a player that young puts up numbers like that. He's got size (6'3"), and he uses it well in board battles, at the net-front, and on the cycle- though I don't think he's a big hitter. Wood is known for his hands, and goal-scoring more than anything else, although he has a good offensive IQ in all areas. He owns a wide array of shots, with an excellent release, and gets it off hard and heavy. The negative is his boots, but I think he's going to be just fine, as he gets bigger and stronger-he only weighs 190lbs. If he can put up numbers like that with below-average skating, think of how good he would be if he could skate? He would be a top-5 pick!

More to come...

Honzek has size (6'4"), and is projected to be more of a LW in the pros. Last year, as a 16/17 year-old, he was the highest scoring non-draft eligible player in Slovakia's Men's League, with 14 points in 49 games-quite a feat. This year, he has 43 points in 31 games with the Vancouver Giants- who are at about the same level as Brandon. Honzek is not flashy, but he has outstanding hockey sense, and moves well for a player his size. He's said to be a pretty good 200 ft player as well. Like Danielson, he will use his size to crash the net, or dig in the corners. Owns a good shot, with a nice release. I have no doubt he produce at higher levels.

Sorry I did this in installments, I wasn't sure about my computer....

Thx for the replies sandman.

Wood seems like the highest upside at a key position. He’s a RHS center with size and scoring instincts and is super young. He seems like a fantastic option in the middle of the first round.

If the flames could get Ziemmer and wood/Danielson/Ritchie that would be a huge boost to our bottom line.

It would seem to be very hard to go wrong with any player in the first 2 rounds of this year's draft.

So Nate’s mom works with my wife. I was telling my wife that it’s possible that he could end up getting drafted by the Flames, and she relayed this to his mom.
Her words were “Over my dead body”.
Turns out his parents are die hard Coiler fans, so now I want nothing more than the Flames to get this kid, and he light up the Oilers for years to come.

Yet the majority will not be regulars in the NHL.

I would doubt that. Checked 2015 quick, I’m not sure exactly on some of the borderline guys but of the first 2 rounds, only 21 or 22 guys aren’t regulars this year, with the vast vast majority of them in the 2nd round.

94% of first-rounders make the NHL, 70% of second-rounders.

However, only 37.3% of first-rounders play more than 100 games, 17.2% of second-rounders.

So, post trade deadline, do we still have all our picks this year? I’m glad we didn’t trade any away though obviously wish we added some.

No, the Flames don't have their 3rd rounder or 5th rounder this year.

3rd was part of the Jarnkrok trade
5th was part of the Toffoli trade

so the picks moved this TDL are currently 13, 17, 21, 24, 26-30 and 32.

Chychrun for 13 is a fair deal I guess. The Hronek one is weird. I guess Vancouver sees it as Horvat for Beauvillier/Hronek and Raty.

Yeah giving up the 17th is a bit of a head scratcher considering this is probably one of the drafts you would want to be in a position to move up or pick in that mid range.
