How many times have we seen two goalies extended long term at the same time? They are spending a ton on goaltending.

Mayfield turns 31 in October. Giving him 7 years seems horrifying.

Outside of Sorokin these extensions are far too long. This league is heading for another lockout.

8 years for a goalie, any goalie is far too long IMHO

Lou has tied up his core, too bad for him these are going to age terribly. For such a sub- mediocre team the Isles have a ton of money tied up in some serious long terms. And 12 million on average goaltending.

I thought NYI got new owners that cared about the team. I guess they think giving Lou control is what's best considering his past (past being the key word) success, but this is crazy.
You can maybe justify the Sorokin deal on its own, but not when you then sign Varlamov for 4 years seeing how hard it is to move guys with term and money recently. Mayfield is a nice player but you don't want to lock him in for 7 years at his age, so much evidence of that deal going bad and quickly.
The Engvall deal is in a category of awful all on its own. Maybe I am missing something but 3m for 1 year seems like an overpay. 27 years old, career high of 35 points. How is this a guy you look at and say we need him to be on our team long term?

Sorokin has consistently had great numbers but before they fired Trotz they were also a very defense focused team which surely played into it a bit. He proved this year he’s the #1 to commit to going forward, but I wouldn’t be giving any goalie 8 years.

Omg Lou absulutely desperate to keep his guys. Seven year deals for bottom pairing / six guys. Insanity.
