Default Getting a still image from video

How do-able is it to get a still out of a video?

Is there a program or website that can freeze frame to get a reasonable quality still from a video?

Is anyone here capable of doing it?

Digital Video...or analog (VHS etc...)

If Digital...you can pause and get a quality shot then print screen it or on Windows take a snapshot and past into an editor program.

The answers here are not incorrect, but incomplete. Standard video is shot at a shutter speed that yields an amount of motion of motion blur that would be inappropriate for a still image. If you're struggling, that may be the issue, and it takes complex processing to remove motion blur from an image.

If you haven't captured the video yet, you'll want to ensure the camera is set up with a high shutter speed (i.e. high frame rate and/or small shutter angle). How fast you'll need to go will depend on how much movement is in what you're capturing. You'll need to shoot in brighter light than usual to make this work.

^Yep. Getting the still is trivial, but having the quality be worthwhile is a whole different matter.

Phone manufacturers used to talk about how their cameras could take one photo and if someone blinked, you could go back or forward in time from when the photo was taken to find the perfect shot. The reality there is using the video buffer and frame-blending, but that's a feature specifically designed to handle that use-case. Grabbing stills of regular video, the quality leaves a lot to be desired even when there is virtually no movement by either the subjects or the camera.

What format is the video? Like iPhone or Android or actually camera? Or a conversion from VHS etc.

DaVinci Resolve can be downloaded for free and any reasonable computer will run it. Mac is better as it will read more formats. Import your video, create a timeline and you can scrub through the video and create a still from whatever image you want.

What do you consider standard video?

Thanks folks.

The issue I'm having is that the camera's framerate isn't what I needed it to be to get the shot I wanted.

For the most part the suggestions here work great, except what I want. While it's clear watching the video, frame by frame it's a blur.

I appreciate all the feedback
