I think I'm paying up here but I think Hughes is on the verge of going nuclear. So when I caught wind of him being available, I jumped at it.

Wow. Good deal for the Wild IMO

I still don't know whether this was a good trade to make or not, which I suppose always happens when moving out a top guy.
I really like Hughes and think he will be a Top 5 center in the league...last year somewhat proved that.
So why do it?
Hischier is rated a 74, 1 more than Hughes. He has a better DF by a lot and his FO is strong. He also had a great second half of last year, upwards of Top 20 in PPG production, so I think he's got more in the tank for growth.
Slafkowksy is a swing of a pick, but if he hits, he is a tough guy to stop.
Lucius once he got healthy was very good at the college ranks and has the ability to step up I think pretty quickly.
Plus, it's nice to have 3 assets to play with. Not many guys can afford a Hughes, so spreading out my chips gives me more teams to trade with.
So, if I can hit 3 of 3, I win. 2 of 3....it's close. 1 of 3, clear win for the Wild.
Will be an interesting trade to follow up on in a few years.

Help, save, whatever.

I'm with SJ. Seems like a good deal for both sides and maybe even Ana with the slight win. But Minny has so many high-end prospects so the deal makes sense for both.

I like the return for Simmer too. I just really really like the home run potential for Minnesota. Hughes has a great chance of breaking through this year. Minnesota has a stocked cupboard as it is, so they can definitely make such a move. Gutsy trade. One that would be fun to look back to.

Honestly I think the winner of this trade might be dependent on Hughes’s year THIS year
If Hughes is a top 5-10 center this year and is making 1.35 next year, then Minnesota will be a powerhouse no matter what as they already got the assets and the only thing that stops a team like that is cap
But if the gap between Hughes and Hischier isn’t that big and Slafkovsky makes an impact, then Anaheim wins
Good deal for both sides and I could see this going either way

And what makes it REALLY interesting is all these guys could end up playing on the same team.
If Hughes is healthy it likely limits the production of Hischier who pushes down to #2 and reduced PP time. Though he's a good 2 way player so he'll have value no matter what.
And then you have the element of does NJD draft Slafkovksy and if so - who does he play with? Hughes or Hischier?

JT Miller? This deal feels very lopsided in the Devils favor.
Two 78 OVR and 4 million in cheese for a 78 OVR.
Rantanen is still young and would be under team control for a few more years, but still.

I offered Colorado Rantanen for the 1st overall pick to try and grab Wright.
Wright fell to 4th so I thought I would try again.
Macho countered with Kucherov, JT Miller and 4 million. Although I give up age/control turning a 78 over player into two 78 ovr players was hard to pass up.

It's tough trading out there. I actually had a few other trade talks that were very similar get shot down. Huge price but I will be liking this deal after just 1 season.
Congrats to the Devils though, smart move for him. Devils will be a contender this year.
