Thanks for the list provided but Hayes isn't even the top prospect on his own team let alone in the nation. Gaudreau say what you want to about his size but he's easily the top NCAA prospect.

Demko over Gillies? c'mon.

Bogus list.

Gaudreau at 14? Enough said about that list

(ignoring the Gaudreau ranking)...

4 Flames in the top 50 and Jankowski well ahead of Arnold is interesting, considering the attention Arnold gets because of Gaudreau.

LMAO. The size fixation in hockey is unbelievable. It's like "yeah, he'll win the Hobey Baker as a junior, but he's small, so let's put him at number 14. And his linemate has only racked up points since playing with Gaudreau, but he's big, so let'a put him at number 1". Hilarious.

Size definitely matters. But at some point, your skill simply transcends it as an issue

To be fair, the size fixation worked in our favour on this one, otherwise Gaudreau would have been long gone before Feaster ever had a chance to draft him.

winning the Hobey Baker doesn't always translate to success though. Only 4 Juniors have won the award, Matt Carle being the only with any form of decent NHL career.

I love Gaudreau as a prospect, but the reality is that he still has an uphill battle. Where as other guys have a path that's a little easier.

Most players will simply attend the camp that is closest to them since they have to pay their own way. Seems to be the case with Haggerty, Taker, Carery (Leafs), and Van Riemsdyk (Philly)

but when a guy like Carey goes out of his way to attend a camp in Dallas that usually indicates he has a high interest in that team

Interesting goalie prospect in Steven Summerhayes who the Flames could sign. He is from Alaska so we can offer the closest ECHL/AHL teams to home. Also the Flames will likely sign a goalie this summer assuming Ortio becomes backup and MacDonald walks

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=39434

Also interesting is Justin Baker who is familiar with Burke and is a big right handed Dman

A lot of these guys already have agents (family advisors) who talk to GMs and get their guys to sign where the opportunities are best. So I can't really see the Flames getting any of the forwards listed due to the stockpile of good young forwards in the AHL, but the Flames are wide open on defense and the Brossoit and Berra trades have opened up things in the crease

OK, found us a more Flames friendly preview:

http://unitedstatesofhockey.com/2013...yers-to-watch/

Here's some names that haven't been mentioned:

11. Kevin Goumas – Sr. — F — New Hampshire — He probably could have earned a free-agent deal last season after a remarkable junior year for the Wildcats, but Goumas is back. He posted over 1.1 points per game and led a Wildcats team that was strong for most of last season. Now a senior, Goumas will remain the focal point of UNH’s offense. What makes some of his production even more remarkable was the fact that his family, based in Long Beach, N.Y., was impacted by Superstorm Sandy. Despite that distraction, he still put up points in bunches. Goumas is a really competitive, smart hockey player who can impact just about every game he plays in. He’s due for a big year and could be a Hobey hopeful coming in. NHL Rights: Free Agent

Andrew Calof – Sr. — F — Princeton — Overshadowed by more players on contending teams, Calof was a terrific producer for the Tigers last season. He was Princeton’s leader in every major offensive category as the team went a disappointing 10-16-5. Calof averaged 1.23 points-per-game last season, which is a near Hobey-caliber pace and could be this year if the Tigers have any amount of competitiveness. As a senior, his experience will help, but it’s going to be tough to get the attention he probably deserves because of where he plays. NHL Rights: Free Agent

Alex Krushelnyski – Sr. — F — Colorado College — Rylan Schwartz grabbed all the attention last year, but Krushelnyski was one of the best big-game players CC had on its roster. After a pair of modest seasons for the Tigers, Krushelnyski went off last season with 43 points in 42 games. He plays with such energy and last year it helped translate to more offense. With Schwartz gone, Krushelnyski will be one of the key producers CC will have to lean on in the new NCHC. It’s not necessarily going to be an easy year, but after what Krushelnyski did last season, he is absolutely a guy to keep a close eye on. NHL teams certainly will be. NHL Rights: Free Agent

SB Nations's 41-80. Names that haven't been mentioned as potential UFA targets:

http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/2014...rospects-41-60

http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/2014...=articlebottom

51. Christian Folin, Defense, UMass-Lowell (Free Agent)

There was widespread speculation that he was leaving Lowell after last season, but he returned for his sophomore campaign. He's got a rocket of a shot and plays Norm Bazin's puck possession style to perfection. He's getting better defensively, but should probably return to get a little more seasoning. He's an older college player so has less upside than some of the other defensemen on this list.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=130891

58. Zach Tolkinen, Defense, Quinnipiac (Free Agent)

Lost in Quinnipiac's high flying offense is the fact the Bobcats have some very good blue liners. He's a big, bruising defender out of Minnesota who plays a very simple game. He isn't flashy, but he was invited to an NHL Development Camp last summer for a reason. His offensive instincts have progressed, but he's the type of player who could be a fifth or sixth defender at the next level bases on his size and defensive prowess.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=123702

67. Eli Lichtenwald, Forward, Union(Free Agent)

The lumbering freshman forward came in to Union as an older freshman and has performed well. He's a big body that goes in the dirty areas and can muck and grind it. He projects as a fourth liner at the next level with the ability to chip in offensively.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=132963

73. Kenney Morrison, Defense, Western Michigan(Free Agent)

Morrison is a big defender with excellent offensive capabilities. He's always been a threat on the power play for Western Michigan, but in his sophomore season, his ice-time and responsibilities have really started to increase. He's still a bit raw on the defensive end, but his upside as a power play quarterback is tremendous.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=132107

78. Bryce Van Brabant, Forward, Quinnipiac(Free Agent)

The junior has really come on strong this season, potting 14 goals after having found the back of the net just nine times in his first two seasons combined. He's a big, powerful winger whose net presence is intimidating. He could play a myriad of roles at the next level, but a power forward who can bring toughness on the third or fourth line is probably his calling.

The first round of the ECAC playoffs are complete and, as a result, Rensselaer (RPI), Brown, Harvard, and Princeton have seen their seasons come to a close.

From that list of 4 teams, a few players have been mentioned in prior posts:

Ryan Haggerty (Junior, Rensselaer)
http://www.uscho.com/stats/player/mi...erty/#20132014

Mike Zalewski (Sophomore, Rensselaer)
http://www.uscho.com/stats/player/mi...wski/#20132014

Andrew Calof (Senior, Princeton)
http://www.uscho.com/stats/player/mi...alof/#20132014

One other Renssealer senior that I'll throw out here is Brock Higgs.
http://www.uscho.com/stats/player/mi...iggs/#20132014

Higgs is also a candidate for the Senior CLASS award. He has had a successful college career after suffering a frightening Malarchuk/Zednik type injury during his Freshman year.

Sign up Ryan Haggerty (RH RW) immediately! He's had a really solid, productive season. Ended on a nice point streak as well...

Just looked deeper into Haggerty. IMO he stays for his senior year to finish college.

His major is Business and Management and has good enough grades to make the dean's list.

His father was also a major college baseball star that spent 4 years in the Red Sox minor league system.

His father said this about professional baseball when he was inducted to the Providence College Hall of Fame last year:

Quote:
"Professional baseball is different. It's not just about stats," Haggerty said. "You have to be in the right place at the right time. A lot of good baseball players over time have never gotten that big opportunity."

sometimes I don't get those players at all. Why would a guy like Czuczman sign with the Islanders?

Travis Hamonic
Calvin de Haan
Griffin Reinhart
Ryan Pulock
Matt Donovan
Thomas Hickey
Ville Pokka
Adam Pelech
Aaron Ness
Scott Mayfield

all promising D prospects or already established NHLers under 25. Good luck getting an opportunity there.

Apparently chose the Islanders because of his familiarity with the team:

Quote:
As a free agent, Czuczman was in control of his NHL destination and opted to sign with the Islanders. Czuczman said his familiarity with the team – he trains with John Tavares, Ryan Strome and Casey Cizikas in the offseason – and Lake Superior State alum Doug Weight made it an easy decision.

“My comfort with New York was the key to me signing there,” Czuczman said. “The culture that is starting to develop and the opportunity to be a part of something special with a new wave of players coming up is something that’s too good to pass up on.

Looks like we're in on Van Brabant:

Bryce Van Brabant, LW
Junior, Quinnipiac University (ECAC)

There aren’t many players in the NCAA who are as punishing as Bryce Van Brabant, who doles out some of the hardest checks in all of college hockey. And it is that ultra-aggressive style along with his vastly improved offensive game that has made Van Brabant one of this season’s most coveted collegiate free agents. Among the NHL teams vying for the junior winger are the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. Van Brabant attended both teams’ prospect camps this past summer.

The Morinville, AB native has posted 20 points (14 goals, six assists) in 36 games to date for the Bobcats. Where Van Brabant has been especially dangerous this season has been on Quinnipiac’s power-play. Of his 14 goals, nine have come with the man advantage, which ties him for the most on the team. Furthermore, his 14 goals are nearly triple his total from last season.

Van Brabant is a 6’3”, 205-pound power forward who thrives in the physical side of the game. He currently leads the nation with 105 penalty minutes. While he has established himself as one of the NCAA’s toughest players, he uses his size and strength very effectively in other areas, as well. Van Brabant’s strong frame and tenacity on the puck makes him difficult to move off of the puck, which is evident in his play in front of the net.

Van Brabant’s increased point production can be attributed to his persistence in gaining and maintaining puck control and his improved cycling ability. Van Brabant has also developed more foot speed and his strides are smoother. One area where Van Brabant continues to be quite good is on the defensive side. He uses his frame and long reach advantageously in stripping pucks and slowing down opponents.
