That is a seriously weak list. Half of these nominees have never had anything to do with rock-n-roll at all. LL Cool J, is that a joke??? I mean, I have a huge amount of musical respect and admiration for Kraftwerk and their input into electronic music, but that is not rock, sorry.

RRHF is more than a joke. It’s a scam. It has zero integrity. They care about money not about recognizing artists.

Not sure how Stevie Nicks isn't an automatic member. Rumours is the 5th highest selling studio album of all time. She had a huge solo career after Fleetwood Mac too.

Kraftwerk is absolutely rock in my books.
Quote:
Rock & Roll is often used as a generic term, but its sound is rarely predictable. From the outset, when the early rockers merged country and blues, rock has been defined by its energy, rebellion and catchy hooks, but as the genre aged, it began to shed those very characteristics, placing equal emphasis on craftmanship and pushing the boundaries of the music. As a result, everything from Chuck Berry's pounding, three-chord rockers and the sweet harmonies of the Beatles to the jarring, atonal white noise of Sonic Youth has been categorized as "rock." That's accurate -- rock & roll had a specific sound and image for only a handful of years. For most of its life, rock has been fragmented, spinning off new styles and variations every few years, from Brill Building Pop and heavy metal to dance-pop and grunge. And that's only natural for a genre that began its life as a fusion of styles.
That was my point though. Call it Music Hall of Fame, then it's fine. But wait, we do have Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and Much Music Awards and some other awards for that already...
Rock'n'Roll was never about "allmusic"...
I get it, RRHF wants to stay relevant and keep putting up their induction ceremonies etc., and rock is not nearly as popular as it was 30-40 years ago, so they make up this concept of "allmusic", "if you think it's rock, then it is". But it's all BS to those who like real rock music.
Co-incidentally, my wife just gave me RRHF complete concert performances set on DVD's for my birthday (I know, I know, we still have a DVD player). With rare exceptions for great "outsider-contributors", most of the inductees, past and recent, were real rockers. And you can see how the trend was starting to shift to pop-music, funk and soul musicians. I love Al Green and Marvin Gaye, but not as rockers; that's not even right. They were soul/R'n'B singers! But even for this trend, this current list is a big stretch and deviation from it, I think. Anyway, no harm done to anyone, I suppose. After all, RRHF is a fully-controlled private enterprise. As long as viewers pay for the show, it's fine.

I was the same but leaning towards yes. They really changed the game and made the integration of rap and metal a staple of music.
They certainly didn't invent it though, but they made it a genre. They built off the shoulders of guys like Chuck D, who I personally think probably influenced rock music as much as he did rap.
Listen to By the Time I Get to Arizona:
The flow and instrumentation sounds a lot like Rage, not as crunchy, but you can hear the influence. I am sure RATM would agree considering members of the band collaborated with him on other projects.

The best thing about RRHF in the last few years was Steve Miller calling them out at their own event. How many iconic acts arn't in the Hall because they arn't considered marketable at the moment, or they have died and can't tour?
Why did it take so long to include the Steve Miller Band? Everyone on the planet can sing along to at least three of their songs.
Out of the included list : Cure, Rage, Devo.
Too soon for Radiohead.
Remember when it was a huge deal when Micheal Jackson was inducted because he was the King of Pop and not Rock and Roll?
The eternal bubble : Janet Jackson, MC5, Def Leppard.
Excluded only do to previous inclusion with her band : Stevie Nicks.
Who will be inducted, guaranteed : Janet Jackson. They have been trying to re-launch her for a couple of years, and that it what this event is about. Ka-ching.
