There is zero doubt Phillips is a better option than Coleman. So he is the guy I would target. Maybe Rooney could be waived too.
Then if you must you put Phillips where Dube is and slide Dube to fill Coleman’s spot.
Also wasn’t Sutter the one who came in and said this is merit based? No one is entitled to play in the NHL?
Wow- sure doesn’t look like it.

You honestly are walking out waiving Blake Coleman?
Do you want to have a pie in the sky discussion or an actual roster construction conversation? Prized free agent with cup rings and you're walking that out as a target?
One not a good look for attracting future free agents to a western Canadian hockey club.
But the guy is 4th on the team in xGA60 and doing exactly what the coach wants him to do. Would be great if he put up more points, but he's as advertised and doing exactly what the coach wants him doing.

That's not enough ice time for the kids though .... or you make the lines relatively even and take ice time away from the top players.
Just doesn't make sense.

This is what living and dying with every game looks like. 23 games in and people are losing their minds. Phillips will get his shot, the team is performing to most people's expectations (until the season started and the once reasonable expectation that the team may take a while to gel became a rage inducing concept). They'll go on a heater soon, someone will get knicked up, and Phillips will get his shot without being called up to single handedly save the team's offense.

Coleman is brutal. What’s his GFx60? Is his sole job to keep the opposition from scoring? Maybe that’s part of the problem.
Yes I’m talking about walking him out because the team desperately needs to install some accountability for lazy play. I know you can’t stand these arguments but watch him float around again tonight, actually watch his shifts. His compete level is extremely dubious. If we are going anywhere we need all hands on deck and people working and if you aren’t working you should sit or get promoted/ demoted.
Sutter did this last year, and stopped doing it to the same extent this year, for reasons unknown. Meritocracy is a key thing and having the top AHL scorer toil away forever in the minors because he’s small is a horrendous message. Decisions by the coach on who to play should have zero to do with how many cups you have, if you signed as a free agent, who you are unless you’re basically elite like Huberdeau.
Coleman has been very lousy in a lot of games.

More than trying to reconstruct the roster or ship guys out I'm looking to add that spark and energy we seem to be missing right now.

I just really hope that when Phillips does get his shot, that he performs well enough to become a permanent fixture on the roster. It would be a good sign to have a continued stream of forwards graduating from the A, and take less pressure off of using assets to acquire older players to temporarily address areas of lack.
Although with that said, even if Philipps does come in and is a good top 9 contributor, I hope Tre still makes a trade to bring in another top 6 forward to truly solidify the offensive potential of the roster. Ideally he would just be using the surplus in defenseman on the team to do that now, and doesn't trade any promising prospects or early round draft picks available to do so.

He plays on a shut down line and .... wait for it ... he's shutting the opposition down.

For sure.
And I agreed above by saying I ALMOST wish for a minor injury to get him and see what they have.
Just trying to be practical about where he fits with a full lineup is all.

Coleman might be the one guy with a motor all game. My only issue with is his reckless stick work and taking bad penalties at key points in games usually stick infractions.

I would agree on the second chance bit but not for $6.65 million per year

Just watched Sutter’s presser and he basically shot down any hope of Phillips being called up for the foreseeable future. Said there is a big gap between ahl and nhl and nothing has changed in three years… he was a bit snarky at the question… surprised he didn’t say “you’re asking the wrong guy” though which is a bit telling of who’s really in charge (it’s Sutter)

I can’t remember a NHL coach taking a gratuitous shot at an asset of the organization playing in the minors before like that. Hopefully we start winning soon at the NHL level.

As I said earlier ... honestly think the groundswell for Phillips is going to completely eliminate his being recalled not force it

He’s like Toffoli and you don’t want two players like that on your roster.

Once again, head coach of the Flames comes across totally unprofessional, brutal really. Pretty sure I am right on Vladar becoming the starter and hopefully I am right with Sutters tenure being over soon.

I don't think it was an unprofessional response .. but him expressing his annoyance with the media questions about a decision not in his domain
obviously is not a big Phillips fan either for god knows what reason aside from stature
apparently there is an nhl way to lead a leauge in scoring and matthew isn't doing it
and clearly no chance a 106 point pace in the ahl converts to anything useful in the nhl
