Lose on a last play FG.

Lots to unpack with this club, but the biggest thing is they look really young, and that will come with growing pains.

Stamps lose after an inexplicably horrible decision by Dave to go for it on third and about 3 at mid field with less than a minute left and the game tied at 22. They failed, and the D that had been somewhat decent in the second half (albeit added immensely by BC mailing it in for most of the half) folded like a cheap tent allowing BC to march it down and kick the winning field goal with zeros on the clock.

Its pre season....he played to win and avoid OT....nothing wrong with his decision.

Yes sir - It was a fine read and throw by Tommy Stevens as well on that play. Tucker just dropped the ball or else the Stamps likely go on to win.

According to the TSN game stats Maier didn't play? Is that correct? Preseason or not Vernon Adams going 12/12, 213 YDS, 3 TD's is a really bad look for the starting defense.

Nope.... very far from it actually.

Look at the guys who played

https://www.tsn.ca/cfl/event/calgary...0230601/211714

This almost entirely camp invites and second stringers that the coaches wanted to get a look at.

Very few of the starters did.

I imagine DD and crew already know the majority of their starting units on both sides of the ball, and this was just a big audition for the guys who havent got a track record of any sort, and a few guys in battles for a starting spot.

I will say though that on the D side of things, no one did themselves a whole lot of favors in that 1st half. Very disjointed. Looked much better after half time though.

I think they have struck gold with a couple guys though in Micah Awe and Cole Tucker.

Reynolds looked really good too other than a couple sacks that he made worse by trying to outrun pursuit when he had no chance.

Oh and Mills...he was solid.

Did Logan Bonner show enough to win the backup QB job behind Jake Maier? Tommy Stevens will certainly still be the short yardage guy and he can certainly throw a wrench into the opposing defense, but Bonner looked pretty good in pre-season action.

I think he played the second quarter and was largely unimpressive. If I recall correctly, had a few pass attempts but the throws were not great and gained zero first downs.

With respect to the D - if that was indeed not our starting roster I do feel better however the first half was abysmal. They provided virtually no resistance to BC marching down the field at will, and several of the throws were to wide open receivers while the QB had zero pressure.

We play this same team in the season opener in a week or so - it will be interesting to see once the bullets are real.

Regarding the bolded, unless I missed the news, Shawn Lemon is still available.

It might not be the talent but the guy calling the plays. Monson is one of the worst defensive coordinators in the CFL.

You keep beating this drum over and over and over.

Really not sure how what metrics you use but these are straight up facts.

Quote:
In 2022, the Stampeders led the CFL in sacks and allowed the league’s second-lowest point total.

The Calgary defence was No. 1 in fewest yards allowed per play, opponent second-down conversion rate and big plays allowed. The Stamps allowed the second-fewest rushing yards and allowed opponents the second-lowest pass-completion percentage
Quote:
The Stampeders gave up the second-fewest offensive touchdowns in the CFL in 2021 and allowed an average of fewer than 19 points per game, conceding 15 points or less on four occasions.
Really not sure what there is to complain about there and certainly nothing to suggest "one of the worst" guys in the league at his job.

Did he run over your dog or something?

Just my 2 cents, but my only gripe about the Stamps defence has been the secondary, but they went with a very young group last season and they certainly experienced some growing pains. Overall, the defense played quite well and gave the Stamps a chance in pretty much every game last season. The offense needs to put up more points and sustain more drives to give the defense a chance to catch their breath.

I don't like his play calling and soft zone defence allowing easy completions.

No creativity.

But it has clearly been successful?

Unless you think with the personnel the Stamps have, they should be even better?

I am excited to get the season going. Stamps are not the powerhouse they once were and that's actually intriguing. I want to see some of the younger guys develop into stars.

Surprised to see Brad Muhammad released, I thought he was pretty good last season.

I think we had the talent last year to be much better for sure.

I just think the defence has gone down hill since he took over.

The team was a power house because of how great the defence was.
