count me as one that thought the hit was not that bad and the player turned back intot eh center of the ice.

I am thinking that the suspension is broken down as 3-5 games for this hit, plus some bonus time for being a frequent guest at the NHL offices - which is not a bad thing.

it will be itneresting to see how he changes his game to adapt to what may be a new reality. This could be his last NHL contract

The video describes how the player is fair game when they cut back into the centre of the ice...but this was still an illegal hit because the main point of contact is the head and there was ample time for a better path to be taken so it was a clean body on body hit.

Good. Any of the #### Wilson pulled in the playoffs would've been 5+ in the regular season. I don't even necessarily begrudge Wilson - he knew this was the last good chance for Ovechkin to win it all as a Capital. He did what he had to do.

But they won. It's preseason. And Wilson is headhunting like Ovechkin's legacy is still on the line. It's not. OV's place in history is encased in frozen carbonite. Stop hitting people in the head.

It's just a stupid hit by Wilson. Accelerating to make a hit on a player that's just shot the puck and is defenseless. Plus first contact to the head.

Other than that it was fine I guess, lol.

I think it was Dreger saying it was stacked against him (and deservedly so).

First they look at the hit and decide games it is worth. Then add games for the injury. Then add games for his history of suspensions. I think there might have been something else too, maybe the severity and frequency of previous suspensions.

Wow, color me surprised. I thought 10 would be asking for too much. Very much deserved.

I don't disagree with you… But it boggles my mind that the NHL PA always sees it as their role to protect the perpetrator from suspension, rather than protecting the victim, in these types of situations

Guess when you get three suspensions for pretty much the same thing in a short period of time they are going to lay down the law.

It being a meaningless preseason game probably played a part as well.

Can an appeal result in more games being assessed? (arbitrator?)

very happy with this. Surprising though, I expected the usual slap on the wrist ... but if a guy deserves to be thrown the book at, then it's Tom Wilson.

More importantly, for our players' health, he'll be suspended when they visit in late October!

I hope so, being able to cut through the middle of the ice without a fear of having someone deliver a career ending head shot, regardless of whether you have your head up or not should be a good thing for excitement and more offence for the sport.

Thank god.

Multiple offender (4 times in 105 games), overly vicious play in a meaningless pre-season game, intent to injure (IMO), head contact, blind side....you name it.

Wilson needs to get the ####ing message that this isn't ok. I would have been fine with half a season. The guy hasn't been learning through the kind and gentle method of punishment.
