If Hellebuyck continues on his progression this should be a good deal...but goalies are voodoo and I don't trust any of them, so time will tell.

One good year lol. This could blow up in the Jets face quite easily.

Pretty good deal for the Jets I think, those should be his best years.

Not quite sure why people are saying he's only had one good year? He has a career save % of .917 (it's been 7 years since Smith had even one season that high) and he's had more wins than losses every year he's been in the NHL. His save % first year in the league was .918, which was miles better than Pavelec and Hutchinson. Even in his off-year last year, his record was 26-19-4 while the rest of the goalies went 14-16-3.

Even prior to making the NHL, his AHL starts are also incredibly strong with two .920+ seasons.

Good signing for the Jets.

He's a top 10 goalie, and this takes him through his prime years.

Very solid contract.

Great deal. At least a top 10 goalie in the league and is only getting better.

Seems like sour grapes for anyone to be bad talking this deal. Guy is an incredibly young, 25 year old starter with Vezina potential. This deal is very fair as it takes him to 31 and will eat up some of his very best years as a starter. Some of the best goalies in the league are currently making north of $7M per and they are all well past their prime years.

Comparable AAV's to this deal: Corey Crawford, Cory Schneider, Semyon Varlamov.

Got pretty badly outplayed by Fleury in the conference final - which was the difference in the series IMO.

The numbers are about what you would expect, I guess, but tieing up that much cash on a goalie always makes me nervous. Unless they have a long and stable track record to justify it. And I don't know that we can say that about him yet.

easy. because is NHL career is very small. 2 years as a starter with one season having only a .907 save%

I think he's a good goalie and will be a very good starter, but you can't guarantee that with only one good NHL season behind him, despite his AHL and university stats.

It will be hard to do but the Flames have to give Gillies the same chance the Jets gave Hellebuyck. These guys have been pretty much equal .. Gillies had his injury year to put him back a year but now is the time that they have to get him at least 20-30 games before making him #1.

Now the Jets have a goalie cap hit of 6.8M and the Flames will be at 4.25 plus Gillies qualified at plus Rittich (both qualified after 725k and 925K cap hits last season) so it will be pretty close.

umm, no. They both don't count on the cap. Only one of them will be on the roster at a time.

The Flames' goalie cap hit will be $5M - $5.25M, depending on what Rittich signs for, and which one of them is currently on the roster.

I like this deal for the Jets. Been a fan of Hellebuyck for a long time. Hoping this is what Demko can become.

Petr Mrazek, anyone? He was amazing until he signed big contract. Good for the Wings that they signed him short term, the moment he got paid he stopped working and turned from the future Vezina winner into one of the worst goalies in the league.
