I had the sound off at first and I knew, just looking at their approximate ages and the way they were dancing, that it was 'Thunderstruck'. Confirmed by clicking the sound on. Eerie...

It seems to be an annual tradition: ridiculously high expectations and bravado in the summer, then a sober reality check after 20 games when they realize, once again, that they remain a deeply flawed team.

it's amazing that the cycle can repeat to almost the same tune and timing every season and the next year they are none the wiser
some times I have doubts that it will be as glorious as the previous season but they always find a couple flimsy reasons to convince themselves that they are an unstoppable team of destiny in august to october . it is this phenomenon of mass amnesia up there and the clock resets every summer

Imagine them with a half decent defense and goalie... and I'm sick of Oilers' fans telling me that they concentrated all their cap space on offense.... That's not the problem, one glaring problem is that they have a 9.25M dollar defense man that's not worth anywhere near that.
Edmonton's Defense: 22.126M (not including Klefbom on LTIR for 4.167M)
Calgary's Defense: 22.675M (not including Kylington on IR for 2.5M)
That is pretty much a wash.
Edmonton's Goalies: 5.75M (not including the fake LTIR of Smith for 2.2M)
Calgary's Goalies: 6.75M
1 million more for Markstrom is the difference, but that burying of Smith's contract should not be allowed under the Cap - out of shape is a bad excuse for going on LTIR.

For $275,000 less they could have paid Ville Husso. Buuuuut… Ville Husso didn’t play for Toronto soooo… they weren’t interested.
I mean that Campbell contract will continue to look bad, but Edmonton is probably the closet Canadian market to Toronto in terms of fan 'personalities', so I can see why that would appeal to them.

Wait until they blow any & all cap space on Michael Bunting next summer.
They get about 4 million if they let Ryan, Janmark, Murray and Shore go in UFA, but Skinner and McLeod need new deals so they probably lose most of it there. Then there’s Poolparty at $3M needing a new deal as RFA. That’s their only move to not qualify him and get that space.
Then they need 4 new forwards on league minimum to ice a team.
I love that the nurse contract will effectively make every future d man extension more expensive . because it's not hard to play as well as nurse on the ice since he was grossly over rated so you have the nurse contract comparison for leverage
