While the front office tinkers with a talented roster ready to take the next step, there’s a full-blown rebuild happening at Rogers Centre.
The Blue Jays announced Tuesday that their $300 million renovation is through its first major stage, with demolition completed last week. Now, the crews are beginning to build the new infrastructure, which will make up a noticeable portion of the two-year project that will continue at Rogers Centre through next offseason.
This stage of the renovation focused mainly on the 500 Level and the outfield. All 500 Level seats have been torn up -- nearly 17,000 of them -- and will be replaced prior to next season, with information coming soon on what the club plans to do with the old seats. There’s also been significant work done to the outfield, which will take on a new look in 2023.
I guess the demolition work wasn’t as much but that was super fast. I also read elsewhere the new seats are expected to be installed start of January. Seems like things are moving along well. I’m really pumped about what they’ll do with the infield seating. If they’re saving the best for last there should be some unique features I’d think.
The more I think about it the more I think the best OF option would be Brantley. He's unlikely to seek a long term deal, has won, is a silent professional, hits extremely well and is pretty average defensively. You sign him to a 3 year deal and put Lourdes or someone else in CF and I think this team looks a ton better. I really don't think the Jays have the appetite to land a OF to a long term deal. Bo and Vlad have to be signed and locking up too many guys to long term deals handcuffs the team should things go south. I'm really digging the Brantley fit. Only thing I wish more is if he was a CF but there's nothing we can do about that.
Lourdes isn’t a good candidate to play CF. He’s a mediocre/poor left fielder with a pretty good arm. He’s not very fast and often doesn’t take good routes on fly balls.
Brantley would cement Springer’s place in CF which isn’t ideal but a better choice than LGJ.

Yep, Gurriel is not a fielder who can play CF. Has an really good arm, but not a great fielder
Jays need to find a player who is a Left handed batter, and can play CF if Springer gets hurt.

Great hire. Get a guy that's had proven success as a player and manager for guys to look up to and listen to and Scheidner to draw on and play off of as well.
And he doesn't have to worry about his sideburns as he did on the Isotopes.
I saw a post that says any team that Mattingly has been apart of have never made the World Series.
People can find a stat for anything, its crazy.
What's really crazy about that is he spent his entire playing career with the Yankees, a team that has gone to the World Series 40 times in its history. It's not like he spent his career with the Mariners or Expos.
The Yankees went to the World Series the year before he made his MLB debut as well as the year after he retired. His career perfectly coincided with the Yankees' longest stretch of time without a World Series appearance since they became the Yankees in 1913 (which they will tie if they don't go to the Series next season).

Mattingly is a great hire. Very few teams go to the world series, so that stat is just a matter of the odds always being stacked against you. He's a smart guy that seems like a natural fit with Schneider's style of management.

Buck and Tabby were Jays baseball to me for a while. Loved Tabby's folksy charm, and he genuinely seems like a great guy, you don't last that long in a booth calling pro sports if you're not a good person. I wish him all the best in his retirement years! He has earned it.
