Maybe this way they will make it 80km/h the entire way through.
Thing is, it should have been 80km/h the entire way to begin with, weave or not. It was a single f$%#ing lane change to exit to 37th St or to not exit if you're taking the ramp from Stoney NB to Glenmore EB.

Do we have a prospective finish date?

Lines are painted, so it looks to only be a matter of actually installing the barriers... I don't think that takes long once they start... Though, if it's anything like whatever work they were doing to the 69th overpass, we could be looking at weeks and weeks of lane closures

Sorry I wasn't clear I meant the rink road with the connection down the Paskapoo Slopes

Sorry, I thought you just meant the weave section at 37th...

Lots of progress at 16th last time I was there... It looks like there could be some partial opening to OBCR, but I don't think they'll roll like that with the ring road

The city/province flipped flopped 3 or 4 times about the Sarcee/Glenmore/37St stretch. IIRC originally it was closed off on opening day, then shortly after they took out the blockade just a couple weeks later. Then shortly after that they blocked it off again, and then they removed them once more, repainted the road. And then they put some reflective poles on the ground. Now they are closing it off permanently!!! What a giant waste of people's time and taxpayer's money!

I seem to recall they flip flopped because the casino raised a big stink about the barrier and how people wouldn't figure out how to get there.

I hate to ask but what is going on with the near daily evening level construction that occurs on the road road in the SW portion?

I regularly drive to and from Okotoks and in the evening there is always crews doing a lot of work. Is this maintenance, additional work from before that wasn't done? Finishing design?

I still find it funny how a few of the road signs still have the remanence of the "road closed" sticker that was on them. You would think it would be cleaned off or the sign replaced.

Maybe this way they will make it 80km/h the entire way through.

Yes!!! Good to see that logic has taken hold. I only drive that road 1x weekly now but it will still be good to see it. Nobody did 60 on that stretch anyway so I'm not sure who they were fooling by putting the speed limit so low. Now the fun should start with the strugglers who are taken by surprise and cannot exit anymore, that should create some interesting maneuvers. I would hope it is is signed in advance before you exit onto Glenmore that there is no 37 St access.

People who didn't run Waze or any other speed enforcement countermeasures, mainly. Predatory speed enforcement is the name of the game in this city, although Edmonton still takes the crown.

I wonder if the counts were simply low enough to justify closing that weave?

That would be my guess.

I drive that way pretty much every day since it opened and can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've seen it used. And some of those vehicles kept going on Glenmore indicating they probably used it by mistake.

I imagined that the casino made a stink, and the province gave in with a temporary solution because when the road opened, Tsuut'ina Parkway was open for casino access yet. Now that you can use that when going SB on Sarcee, there's no need for that weave section anymore.

About damn time they fixed that nonsense.

They were covering their butts for lawsuits when someone crashed trying to cross all the lanes at 80. It was always a temporary solution. If the Grey Eagle Drive access of the ring road was ready in time it wouldn't have been necessary.

I'm happy to see that they finally opened up the new section of the TCH to 80km/h instead of 60 although eastbound still has a 60 zone right in front of Winsport. The 80km/h westbound all the way from Sarcee is greatly appreciated.

Including the northbound ramp from TCH to Stoney. That’s been so painful at 60, Nic,e to see it at 80 now. I’m hoping eventually the limit will be 100 when the project is finished?

I haven't seen anywhere suggesting it will open in stages. I think the entire project all has to be open for them to hit the contract date which is 2024.

That area construction at HWY 1 has been painfully slow. 2024 is pretty optimistic unless they get a lot of work done this summer.
